Questions about 1st and 3d weeks watering from newbie

Hi,

I have a couple of questions (I just started autoflowers):

  • I don’t have good light except of standard lamp in my apartment. And the daylight is like 8h in the place I live, so 16h of darkness. What are the best options without buying anything? Can I just keep the tree in my kitchen, for example, with lights turned on at least 16h in total?

  • I am leaving apartment for 5 days right at the start of the third week. I have two options:
    a) I will water the tree and leave it near the window so it can collect some natural light during 8h daily
    b) I can put tree into bathroom with lights turned on 24h. I will put some hot water into the bathtub so it can evaporate during the 5 days and provide some humidity

Thanks!

Well, ill be honest, thats probably not enough light to help it grow, so i would leave the lights on 24 hrs a day if possible. Autos don’t need the light schedules flipped, so theyll be fine.

That being said, buying some lights should be your first priority, it will help tremendously with your finished product. I understand not wanting to buy anything if you don’t need it, but lights are extremely important.

As far as the bathroom goes, be wary of keeping too much humidity, and also ensure proper airflow. If you have a vent fan, that will help exchange the air from the room.

How old is plant.
How big is the container it’s in.
You really need a light source beyond what you have.
Picture if you can.

thanks, so it makes sense just to place them to the bath at night and leave the lights opened? so i will have around 16-18h of lamp and natural light with a some hours without light or “grey from outside” light

also, what do you think about not watering for 5 days and keep the tree under lights 24/7 during this period?

also, i might said it a bit wrong - the apartment has enough light. the tree is on the table under one of the lamp that lights directly to it. the height is around 60sm

If they are not grow lights they don’t have the correct spectrum.
Those pots look really wet. Meaning they could dampen off where the stem meets the dirt.
As for leaving for 5 days. They will be bigger by then hopefully and in bigger pots. Put some watering bulbs in the pots with them.
Overwatering is one of the worst enemies of plants.

Put them in big pots. Pots need holes, for drain.
Use every lamp you have.

The bigger that one in the jar gets the harder its going to be to transplant do to how that neck shrinks inwards.

The final pot needs to be at least 30cm (12 inches) across and about the same high. Bigger if you can (40-50cm)

Pots need drain holes in the bottom and if the containers with the seedlings in doesn’t have drain holes, they could die due to damp soil and no airflow in the soil.

I use shadecloth or plastic flyscreen to line the bottom of pots so the potting mix doesn’t drain out the holes. The shadecloth allows water to drain but holds the potting mix in.

The biggest killer of cannabis plants is wet roots and poor drainage. If the soil is too damp and there’s no airflow in the soil, you are wasting your time and money trying to grow them. Go buy a couple of 4 inch diameter pots and get some coconut coir. Mix the coconut coir 50/50 with the potting mix and put that in the 4 inch pots. Plant the seedlings into that. When you can see white roots start to appear at the bottom of the pot (where the holes are) then you transplant them into the bigger pots (12 inch pots), which is their final home.

Seedlings need 8 hours of darkness to rest each day so they can grow well, and after a couple of weeks you can give them longer days and shorter nights (6 hours of darkness) if you like.

Get yourself an LED light and a 24 hour timer and put that above them. Have the light on for 16 hours a day. You can use LED spotlights from hardware stores. I use outdoor LED spotlights that have clamps and I can clamp them to posts or tables and they plug straight into a power socket. They are pretty cheap (around $20) and last a while. Get a light that has a 6500K (K is for Kelvin) rating so it has a nice white light (sold as a cool light or cool white light). If you can’t get a globes with a 6500K rating, get one that is between 5000-6500K.

In a couple of weeks before you go, give them a little drink if the soil is dry and leave it. If the soil is damp, do not water them before you go.

Do not increase the humidity by having water in a bath, just close the house up and leave it.

thanks. so just in case, I will continue growing without big pots and LED lamp (as i do now) what is the result I may get?

Also, I am just not sure about transfering to the new pot, or it is not still too late at the 9th day

If there is enough airflow through the soil and the plants don’t rot and die, you will get small plants around 12-18 inches tall and maybe a few small buds, but you won’t get much if the plant is root bound (not enough space for the roots) or doesn’t get enough light.

You can transplant the plants any time but make sure the root ball (soil around the roots) doesn’t get damaged when you take it out of the old pot. They are pretty small seedlings and you need to be careful with their roots because they only have a few and they will be soft and easily damaged.

thanks dude, I’ll try to transfer them to bigger pots. the only thing is that i am living abroad and it is a bit harder for me to find all those things + language barrier

Growing is addictive and so much fun to see your plants grow into something you never imagine could happen. As said lights are very important to get results. Takes about 200 watts per plant. 3-5 gallon pots are best. So if you can find a couple 5 gallon buckets that would work. Also depending on soil used you will need some nutrients at some point. If it’s possible for you to do these things you want be disappointed. Good luck
