Question on defoliation

I personally believe they look splendid, if I may say so myself.

Given that I had problems with them before, I resolved those issues through research, consulting the local private grow shop owner, and, of course, the ILGM Forum.

They are now three weeks into flowering.

I would like your opinion on defoliation. They look plump, and I’m concerned that air might not be circulating properly. Should I remove a few leaves?

You helped me with my last problem, so I hope you can assist me again.

Thank you in advance!

They look absolutely amazing. If they are done with the stretch you can now lollipop them and cut leaves blocking bud sites

I agree now would be a very good time to lollipop

Ha ha, I sounded quite cocky about the plants, but I am particularly pleased because there has been a moment when I thought I might have to kill them off, so I am amazed at how good they look because not that long ago, they were in a sorry state
.
So, lollipoping, I watched videos and read articles so I know what it is, but never done it, i did some topping and low-stress training,
I thought lollipoping has to be done in the veggie stage? Or am I remembering wrong?
Thank you for your reply

Hello @Lostgirl, these are the girls you helped me recover; right now, idk what to do with the “Auto-i didn’t know it was Auto” freak; not sure if you remember it; you replied as well.
She is a freak, I am telling you, and I am not sure what to do, I wanted to post it as a topic, and I would really like your opinion on that.

For these flowering girls, it looks like I’ll lollipoping, not sure they are tall enough tho, as @Mntmannw suggested “if they are done with the stretching”
I check.
Thank you for replying

Lollipoping best done right after the stretch

Ok, so i was remembering wrong, so can it be done only at that stage or can it be done on the veggie stage?

I guess you can donit during veg. But it will need to be redone after the stretch cause of all the new growth… you wanna make the plant focus all energy on the big buds… i always feel bad lollipoping all this work to cut off all the lower bud sites

Wow! Great looking plants!

I kind of remember but I don’t. :open_mouth: You listed a collage of pictures above asking about the lollipopping. Is that girl that you think is an autoflower in the same tent with the girls that are 3 weeks in flower?

Maybe we should start from the beginning with your issue with said girl.:thought_balloon:

I don’t think the plants are fully stretched; they are 50 cm, or 21 inches, tall, and I’m not sure how much more stretching they will do. I’ve done a lot of topping, and all of the plants have undergone low-stress training. As a result, I have three plants with many buds spread out.

I wanted to show you how I have been training them, the picture of the canopy is to show 1 plant and how many buds it has

These 3 girls have nothing to do with the freak, 2 separate tents,
Let’s just talk about them for now,

Anything below the line should go… if your 3 weeks since flip you might wait another week then lollipop

That’s what I felt like doing, you know? From everything I know now, the best thing would be to get rid of all the small buds. I stopped myself though, before i’d do it i wanted to know more

Well sounds like you have a plan. Just make sure your out of the strech then cut away

Looking at the girls and you’re above pictures they’re starting to get a bit bushy. I don’t believe a big deflortation is in order here.

You have string tied to a lot of branches in your images above. You can pull those branches down and tighten up the strings opening those girls up nicely.

After doing so you’ll find you’ve done what a blooming onion does when cut. (You opened it up)

I see a lot of long branches that can be pulled down to do just that in your images.

At that point you can do leaf tucking, tying off giant fan leaves to its own branch (that keeps them yet get some out of the way)

Finding ways to open your plant without removing leaves is literally a form of art. Once you do it enough it’s very simple. Understanding the importance that every leaf makes in photosynthesis.

You can literally do the lollipop now or wait a week if you think she’s still stretching. It’s important to get it done and out of the way as you don’t want to do it when she starts full flowering.

Time management with these plants are key.

I just had a thought about the LST I am doing, I have to check all those garden strings, right? Some have been like this for maybe a week, or 10 days.
With LST, sometimes the strings have to be moved, idk when, every few days? A week?

Thank you for all the info and advice.
I have tried to do just what you are describing, flattened down the canopy.
It probably needs to be redone now, as I explained in the other post,
Another thing, the more i opened them up, the more room they need, i understand why people do only 1 or 2 with lollipoping, i dont have room to opened them up as i’d like to.
But thank you and i agree it’s like a form of art, i enjoy doing it,

Just be selective and only remove fans if possible. Strip everything off the bottom quarter.

Lollipoping is a severe stripping of most leaves and is done just ahead of harvest.
