Lollipop lollipop Oh lolli lolli lolli, lollipop, lollipop Oh lolli lolli lolli, lollipop, lollipop Oh lolli lolli lolli, lollipop…

Hello to all my fellow Botanists’ in training. You can probably guess from my title what I am about ta ask. I am closing out week 3 in the flowering stage and the bud sites have started to appear. I am running out of room fast in my small 2x2x4 tent and topped my lady a couple weeks ago. As you can see by my pic below I need to do some serious pruning and was thinking of doing the lollipop thing. Whatchall think?

Week 3 is the time to lollipop and thin her out. She’ll love the air flow and light penetration :love_you_gesture:

Get a net and start bending and breaking ahead of the stretch

Thanks for the question!! I didn’t even know this was a thing and I’m about 2 weeks in. 4x5x80” and I waited too long to flip so I feel your question!!

Typically a ‘lollipop’ is done just ahead of harvest: a week or so. What you are wanting to do is a defoliation of the lower third of the plant and most fan leaves. Leave everything else. Leaves produce the sugars needed for flower production. If you go at it too hard you will reduce yield.

First of all thank you for responding, however I think one of us is confused. Everything I have read says to Lolli either on the flip or 3 weeks into flowering. Lollipop is literally defoliating the lower third of the plant. I have read nothing that says to do this just ahead of harvest, in fact that would make no since. Because the reasoning behind it is to allow the plant to concentrate its nutes on bud sites during flowering stage, and allow light to penetrate all of the plant. Maybe I am missing something?

Thanks for the confirmation OG.

Due to the fact I remove her every time I water, prune, and feed, I think a net would be a major hassle. I see others who use one and have great success but for me and my space not so much.

Lollipop or as I call it the bouquet…needs to be done right before you flip to 12/12…this include leaves and any branches that will never develop. and you stay on top of cleaning the bottom out each day…about 2-3 weeks after flip you need to start to take out the big fan leaves that are blocking light, this will allow branches to grow and develop nice colas…we all have our way of doing it, this is mine

6 weeks flower time

9.5 weeks flower time almost ready

3 weeks after flipping is a targeted defoliation.

Stripping everything ahead of harvest is (or was) called lollipopping: this is simply done ahead of harvest to spread the work load out. It does nothing for yield.

Removing too many leaves will reduce yield, not increase it. Flower does not produce the sugars; leaves do. Removing too many hampers the plant’s ability to build flower.

It absolutely does if you have 30 pounds of green plant material to process.

So maybe it’s just a matter of mixed definitions.

Just an update. If she is milky enough, I will harvest after next week. Thank everyone for you’re help!

Should I harvest her?

Those pics look like the sugar leaves and will turn quicker than the bud. Ya gotta get the scope in past those. How long in flower :love_you_gesture:
