You don’t have to wait for the seed to split to put in the paper towel. The whole point of the paper towel is to get the seed to split and start growing a taproot. The reason I sow my seeds after only 24 hours is so it doesn’t become waterlogged, but there are people who soak for 48 hours, so I guess this is personal preference. I suggest that you wait till tonight and put the seeds in the paper towel whether it splits, or not.
@raustin @Momtomask @Countryboyjvd1971 @Zepman55 @SilentHippie @Myfriendis410 @dbrn32 @GetbackJoJo if left anybody out, I do apologize.
Just a quick update. We left the seeds in our water for 21hours yesterday and put in paper towels last night and this morning we have tap roots that have appeared on both seeds. Should I change the lights to 12/12 yet?? j/k
Actually no lights. They are in a cabinet in the dark. Again @raustin thank you so very much for your advise. Also, thanks to everybody that’s on this journey with us.
If you have tap roots get them planted and you’ll be on your way.
@Myfriendis410, after you get you taproots put in cup, what is your light schedule? Do you do 24/7 if so, how long? Thanks in advance
I do. 24/0 during the seedling stage and then I back off to 16/8 once in veg. 12/12 is for flowering.
Excellent! Isn’t this fun? So now that they have their taproots it’s time to plant them into whatever you will be using. Don’t wait because the bigger the taproot gets the bigger chance of breaking it during planting, they’re very fragile. You’ll also want to keep the light on for 24 hours so that they have light when they pop.

5-1-18 - 8:45 PM Dropped in water
5-2-18 - 5:45 PM Put in paper towel. (21 hours)
5-3-18 - 5:15 AM seeds have the slightest sprout. (12 hour)
Tap roots grew ½ inch (12 hours) today! 6:00pm
5-3-18 - 6:00 PM put them to work
Planted seeds in dixie cups using coco/perlite mix. Sprayed the soil with slightly acidic water that tested out at 67 ppm. Put Dr. Pepper bottles on top of them to keep them hydrated and set them under the veg light. Temp is 78 and humidity is 57%.
I think our challenged will be to keep the temps down below 80* Thank y’all again!
I forgot to mention, I drilled about 10 whole around the bottom / (Top) of the bottle so they can breathe.
I also meant to ask, have you every seen a prettier set of twins??
Haven’t seen a prettier pair of twins in awhile @HappyHydroGrower! Awesome, they’re off to a great start.
You are doing everything spot on. Keep the inside of the dome misted for most of your moisture and you’ll have some happy sprouts.
Well done, @HappyHydroGrower. They’re off to a good start.
@raustin @Myfriendis410 @Covertgrower,
Thank y’all!!
First I want to welcome you to ILGM
Looks already that you have a great following of some awesome fokes.
But you are off to a great start. Tag me anytime I’m always floating aroud…lol

5:30 AM – Temp is 76°F w/48% relative humidity (RH). Misted the dome and the soil just a little.
3 PM – The girls got their domes misted.
6 PM – The first baby has shown up! Temp is 76 w/RH 47%.
8 PM – Temp still 77°F w/RH 47%. Cut the second light on and lowered lights to about 10” and cut the fans off.
10 PM – Temps up to about 81° w/RH 51%

This is right at 4 days after dropping them in water.
6:30 PM – Temp is 81°F w/RH 48%.
Question:
I know these are babies but, do the look a little small?
How long should we keep the domes on??
And, how are my temps and humidity??
How high should my lights be at this point??
We are going from Dixie cups to 5 gal. soft pots, is there a general rule to know when to transplant??
Your babies look fine and your conditions look perfect. The domes should stay on for the first week at the least, you want to keep humidity pretty high for seedlings. Where ever you have the lights now looks good, they’re not stretching and that’s good. You transplant when you see roots coming out the bottom, probably in about a week or two.
They’re fine.
I usually run them in a tray with done over whole tray for about a week. Then I open vents on tray for about another week.
General rule on transplant is when leaf span is over edge of container it’s in. But there’s some exceptions to that depending on what you’re trying to do.
Lights are gonna vary depending on few things. But I agree with @raustin, looking pretty good wherever they’re at right now.
Temps are good and humidity in tent not as important right now as they’ll be higher under dome if you’re misting. But that looks good too.
You can relax, everything is on point. Congrats!
Calm is the key word lol! You’re doing everything fine and they’re right on track. (Don’t worry; we’ve all been there)
I’m hoping, if nothing else, by documenting everything, and posting as much as possible, this might help someone else. THANKS EVERYBODY for all your help!!
