Psilocybin Adventures

All colonization stages will take place in a Martha tent where temp and humidity can be tightly controlled. I use a seedling mat covered with a folded bath towel to control temp. You want it warm, but you don’t want direct heat on your jars or tubs. I also use an Inkbird humidity controller to maintain RH at 88%. A small Honeywell humidifier is perfect for maintaining high RH in a Martha tent.

I sprayed the entire tent fully with Microban (a persistent version of Lysol spray) to kill any possible sources of contamination.

Strain the water from your grain and let it sit for a half-hour before putting the grain in jars, stirring occasionally. Standing water in the bottom of your jars will lead to contamination.

This is very interesting, great work, Growing spores like that is new to me , I live in a favorable climate where we pick our own in Cow Manure in a farmer’s field, Do the spores grow naturally in the kernels or you have to order them?

My bad i should have read the beginning of your post, You’re spores shipped!

The corn is called spawn. The idea here is to have mycelium growing on each kernel of corn. Then use that spawn to innoculate a larger bulk substrate. Substrate usually made of coco, vermiculite, manure, straw…things like that.

@MidwestGuy good posts brother!

The jars are capped with plastic lids with 2 ports in them. The small gray port is an injection port for spores. The other port is a 0.22um air filter for air exchange.

These are pint jars and 4 of them fit perfectly in an Instapot for pressure cooking. The pressure cooking is done before inoculation to kill any remaining contaminants that may have been in the jars or lids. The next time the jars will be opened will be 6 to 8 weeks from now when the jars are fully colonized.

Place aluminum foil over the jars to minimize water getting in the jar via pressure cooking. I pressure cook at 15 psi for 90 minutes.

Setting up the liquid culture jars now.

I use half-pint jars for these. Fill them 3/4 full so they don’t flow over when being pressure cooked. I add about a half a ml of Karo syrup to each jar for food for mycelium growth. There is a small hole in the plastic lids that have been covered with micropore tape for air exchange and to prevent contaminants from getting in the jars. Spores will be injected through the micropore tape and I’ll cap it with another layer of micropore tape after injection.

In a couple of weeks the water will be cloudy with mycelium.

I’ll only pressure cook these for 30 minutes.

A couple of tips for liquid culture jars.

Don’t add too much Karo syrup. If the solution is more than 3 to 4% sugar the solution won’t colonize.

Also, it’s okay to vent the pressure from your grain jars as soon as the PC cycle is complete, but don’t do it with LC jars. Let the pressure and temp reduce with the seal on the PC intact. Relieving the pressure at the temps in the PC immediately after the PC cycle will cause the jars to boil over.

Let’s inoculate the grain now that it has cooled. I’ll put 3 to 4 ml from a spore syringe in each of the grain jars. This is a delicate balance. The more spores you put in the jars the faster they will colonize; however, if you put so much in that the spore water pools in the bottom of the jar it risks contamination. I’ll put 1 ml each in the LC jars.

Sterility is extremely important during inoculation. Do it after taking a shower and use a still air box or other method of ensuring the air present during inoculation is sterile. I use the “oven method.” Pre-heat your oven to 300F to sterilize it then reduce the heat to 200. Conduct the inoculation on the open oven door where the airflow will be from within the sterile oven. Spray 77% isopropyl alcohol liberally (away from the oven) on your gloved hands and the jar lids. It’s best to use 77% alcohol versus 99% because 99% alcohol evaporates too quickly to fully sterilize what it comes into contact with.

Then we play the waiting game for the jars to fully colonize with mycelium. It will take 6 to 8 weeks.

That kind was my first trip on shrooms ever! Was living and going to school in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico and a buddy found them in a cow pasture. We picked a couple of grocery bags full. Smooth and colorful trip. I remember having to go pick up an old exam from a friend and the passenger side of the car felt like it had hugh tractor wheels lol.

Thanks for sharing!

I never had a bad trip from mushrooms, I just need to be home or somewhere, not Driving , Everything Driving down the road was on Fire , including the police car behind me  I made it home and swore I’d never drive again when doing shrooms

I have found that stress and mushrooms dont go well together. Fighting a trip, makes it worse.

My favorite shroom experience was with my least favorite person.

This drug runner back in around '95…ran out of money for gas and tolls… Asked me to go with and pay for those … He’d pay me back cash… Plus provide me tasty buds and “extras”.

So… We’re down in Arlington Heights or Buffalo Grove in Illinois somewhere… After he did his pick up… While I waited in car… He stopped at a McDonald’s for a couple sodas.

He went into a baggy and grabbed out the most dark purple caps that I’d ever seen… Almost black… Unless you looked under the right light.

Chewed what he gave me… A few caps and a couple stems… Equally dark.

Drank up the soda… Cleaned my teeth… Worst part of shrooming IMO.

Half way up i94 to Milwaukee… Before the freeway road lights start in Milwaukee county… It was night…

I started tripping balls.

The pitch black sky… Suddenly looked like evil red… Clouds… Was awesome.

Got home… Was so F’ed up… Could barely walk… All off balance… Got up to my apartment… The large kitchen had a 4x2 florescent light fixture on the ceiling in the middle… With a translucent transfuse for the light to go through.

But the way it looked… It was like a spot light… Everywhere but down and at a slight angle outward… Underneath the light… Was black.

Then dude left me there alone.

That ruined the fun… Plus being inside.

Years later I was with that dude up at his family’s rustic cabin to fish… One night while out on piers fishing… Him on the neighbors pier… Things got weird… We saw a UFO… Wasn’t tripping at all.

As soon as the UFO… UAP… Whatever… Went back straight up into the clouds…i mean immediately after… He with out hesitation… Says… You ever tell anyone… I’ll deny it and tell everyone your lying.

I still always look at the sky’s… And have hated that dude even since he made good on his promise.

I forgot about the laughing… Haven’t shroomed since '95

Interesting video for us science geeks.

Points brought up include that mycelium is capable of growing through Kevlar, that mycelium can be traced back 2,000 years, and that a teaspoon of mycelium contains 10 miles of mycelium fibers.

Part of the video addresses the history of psilocybin in Mexico circa 1400s. It also points out that LSD is also a product of a fungus (shrooms are a form of fungus) named Ergot.
