When it comes time to case the tub with the coco perlite mix what ratio should I use and how thick of a casing does it need to be @MidwestGuy @CoyoteCody @BooBooDaFoo

That answered part of my question but after the tub colonizes I mean specifically how thick of a layer of coco do you put on top. Once my cakes are done I’m going to mix it with those boomr bags and let colonize again then after that I’m a little at a loss do I mix perlite with the coco or just straight coco

I use straight coco. I’m not sure why someone would use perlite as perlite retains no moisture. The only place I’ve seen perlite used is to place colonized BRF cakes on it to fruit.

I probably said to use perlite if I recall. But I may have gotten confused with cakes. I never layered with coco on top once it colonizes. You should be okay without. I could have misspoken and meant to say vermiculite instead of perlite. Let me do a quick search and I’ll get back.

PS you won’t need gypsum. I only ever ran it in my sub once.

Yea it had me confused some said perlite but I get it that’s with the cakes so just the coco as a casing for the tub

Yes if casing just use straight coco. Again I never have done this. You will probably have to re case again each flush I would imagine since it’ll probably come off while dunking. Plus I’m not too sure if it has to be pasteurized like the substrate. Maybe someone can chime in on this. If you plan on using straight coco as sub you can probably use the same stuff to case I would guess, however I’m not sure if it needs to be dry or damp, etc.

I watched a video from north spore where I got the boomr bags from he just poured a little coco over the top of the colonized manure and sprayed it down til wet

Yo I found the tek I used to use. Not 100% step by step but it’s a good tool to use for guidance. Google Damien5050 tek. It’ll be the one on shroomery. I will have to pull up my bird seed tek next incase you decide to do your own bags/jars. I got to head out to run some tasks but I’ll check in here soon.
Cheers

I’ve been reading a lot on that mushroom forum some people case some don’t is it vitally important to case the substrate after colonization or just start misting fanning and giving light once I have good mycelium growth everyone seems to stop exposing on these videos once the tub is colonized and nothing after that.

Yup once fully colonized take tub out of bag and your good to start misting & fanning.

Now one more thing after my first mushys how do you flush a tub for another run do I scrape off the layer of substrate and just keep spraying or what I know with the cakes you just dunk them again confused on the tub though @BooBooDaFoo

So when you must the substrate to activate the pinning do you must directly on the mushrooms or just around the sides of the tote in between where mushys are actually growing?? Where exactly am I going to spray

I soak mine between the second and third flush with distilled water, i fill the tub to where the block is just barely floating. I let it soak overnight then I drain it off and do the 3rd and 4th flush.

I also just mist the sides of the box when misting.

Thanks @CoyoteCody exactly the answer I was looking for thanks man I can’t wait gonna check em in like a week don’t want to peek before it’s time

Yes spray around the sides after fanning as to not have the water droplets pool up on the sub. If you use a bag liner as well it will pull in from the side leaving a little space between the tub and sub which can help prevent side pinning and help to create a desirable environment for mushrooms and less likely to pool up. When dunking just fill the tub up to we’re it water starts coming out the holes like mentioned by Cody. If you need to you can put something on top to help it sink a little that won’t damage it.

Not going to lie, I check mine everyday, but im looking for contaminates. The last batch all 3 bags got mold, which is weird because they were still sealed, but it was a new company I was trying out, and these are the replacement bags they sent me. So im being overly cautious

So maybe I should give a peak tomorrow say one jar gets contaminated if I leave it in the same bix too long does it risk the others @CoyoteCody

only if the jars are opened, if they have the proper filter tape or something like that on them then it shouldn’t cross contaminate anything, but it won’t hurt to look, just makes it go by slower lol.
