I’m always trying something new I even have my very first clone and it’s doing pretty good I’ll be putting it in a 2 gallon pot today
I had never grown autos before myself either, killed several in the beginning and am no means an expert or even seasoned. I do know from my experience next time 7 gal no topping or fimming, LST only for me. I have only grown autos indoors up to this point but plenty of photos outdoors. I have 4 photos started and my plans for my new system just grew by 2 so, will have to start 2 more. I definitely plan to try some clones this time around fo sho
I find the clone fits in the small spot I have in the flower tent nice and before I just thrown them out. The test I’m going for this time around is just how big of a pot do you need for a clone. I put it the flower tent right after it got roots and I topped it.
Personally I would put it in it’s forever home once rooted
I would have liked to but they were still in the mail so I just made do what ever I get off it is just a bonus
Is this the Nirvana strain? If so, you might want to double check that with them. At the top of the strain page it says it has a flowering time of 8-10 weeks. At the bottom it says seed to harvest is 9-10 weeks. Big difference!
You’ll find that most people seriously overestimate the pot size they need. Going with a big pot is just a way to compensate for lacking care and treatment methods. You can actually grow a pretty large plant in a small pot successfully, it’s just a lot easier to do in some media than others.
As pointed out, you never really know how long your plant will veg for. Some do have recessive auto gene and won’t flower until manipulated. Others will start flowering as early as 4-5 weeks from sprouting. In my experience plants don’t seem to create new growth and expand roots at the same time very well. So you end up not getting a lot of growth while root mass is expanding. If it ends up you have autos wanting to flower fast and they spend a lot of their veg time building roots it could actually hurt your results more than help. That’s why you see some growers recommending small to medium sized pots anyway. To me it’s a little bit of a gamble one way or the other. But I would say a 5 gallon pot is probably big enough in your situation. Of you end up having plants that want to veg forever, maybe you do give up a little bit of yield potential. But I don’t feel like it would be a substantial amount.
That’s true but I have all summer to grow 3 autos so I’m sure I’ll be playing with them top one and lst at different times I’ll do a lot of different things to screw them up or find the best outcome
I have grew several different strains of Autos in 5 gallon fabric pots and seem to work good for me. And pushed some of them as far as 16 weeks. Good luck with your autos
The answer may make a difference in your pot size selection. I can tell you that a lot of Mephisto 60-65 day strains produce better in a 3 gallon pot in soil (reference @dbrn32 comments above) , whereas strains that grow for longer periods do better in 5 gallon or larger.
It’s worth a quick email to find out. Plus, you can let them know they need to fix their web page.
Edit: Oops, I just scrolled back to the top and realized you are talking about an outdoor grow. So, the pot size relationship I mentioned above still holds true but in your case it might be 5-7 gallons for a 10 week total grow or 7-10 gallons for a 10 week flowering period plant. Ask the breeder…
I just sent an email to ask all the good questions everyone brought up. So now to wait and see what they have to say
Now I’ll have to try a 5 gallon pot also I just think a 3 gallon would be to small but thank you. You make an excellent point
The rule of thumb is … the bigger the better…im sure you can make the call on this one…right?
Oh ya I’m sure a 3 gallon would be to small and I’m thinking 10 would be to big
10 would be perfect for out side
B Safe
will
So your saying 25 gallon would be even better
Ok here is my way of thinking ok?
This is a pic of my BlueBerry in a 30 gal jug INSIDE can you imagine how big it would have gotten if it was outside
Sorry about that, this is the Blueberry that’s in a 30 gal pot in SUPER SOIL and inside. She grew to almost 5’6" tall
So ya the bigger the pot the bigger the plant
Wow that’s great is that an auto
No it’s not an Auto. But I’m working on my next grow as we talk, The Fruity Pack where I am growing 9 different auto’s with 9 more right behind thoughts and 9 behind them and so on for a harvest every other week.
@garrigan62 Man I wish I had the room to do that but I was also thinking about just digging a hole and dumping a bag of soil in and growing in that but then I would not be able to test my runoff for ph and ppm
Just for comparison, all 3 here are autos. The back is the smallest and the oldest. Ready to cut in 1-2 weeks. The front two are 4 weeks behind the back. All in 5 gallon pots seed popped in soil, LST trained, no topping. The difference between the three is obvious. I was able to better dial in the nutes, stretch, lights. All small tweaks that helped them reach root maturity. They are fun, but they grow so fast you gotta watch em close to get the most harvest. My 2 cents. Lol
I’d like to see the root ball that comes out of those they look great
