This summer I’ll be growing some autos out side and was wondering what size pots I should use
I’d go 7-10 gallons
About 2 gallon will do just fine for autos.
I have been growing them indoors in 5 gal and wish that I had used 7-10 inside so, I would have to concur with @HornHead. Definitely 7-10 for outside
These are going to be blueberry Kush I don’t know if that will make a difference. 7-10 seams big to me but I have never grown a auto before so I have no idea what to expect. When to top can I super crop all new to me as far as an auto.
Unless you want to limit their size for secrecy, 3 gallons is probably the minimum you want. And to a degree, it depends a lot on the genetics. Growing it out a few times is the best way to find the right container size.
I already started looking at 7 gallon pots and I’ll be growing them up at the cottage so they can get up to 10 feet tall I don’t care but with only growing for 2 1/2 months I don’t think they’ll get that tall
Growing for this period of time I highly doubt the roots will completely fill a 10 gallon container with roots. This was my point. Your grow may vary.
I have been using 5 gallon for my phone. You grow autos a lot?
That is a lot of area I know I use 5 gallon for my photo’s in the grow tent with 4 1/2 months of grow time but the sun is a lot stronger than the lights
You won’t have to water as frequently and next year you can downsize based on the root mass you get this year.
Ya I was just hoping someone else has already done it so I don’t have to buy something to use only once
I grow lots of autos and always use 7 gallons. Root ball is always full. Plus you don’t know how long it will grow. I had a white widow auto take close to 3 months before it would flower. I would suggest starting in solo cups then slitting it on 6-8 sides when you transplant. Helps with the transplant shock. I’ve never had any problems doing it that way
I’ve started doing that last year when you told me about it. Do you top your autos I heard not to after 20 days
7 gallons seems more reasonable than 10, outside I think they would get more light, so they probably would fill the container better. @HornHead
My first 3 grows inside were autos. Finished one coming to an end on the second and just starting to flower on the third. They do fire off fast. The next ones are going to be photos. Like @HornHead said I would use 7 gal minimum
Ya I’ll be using 7 gallon I figure I’ll top once and lst and hope for the best
If you are growing autos, I’m not sure that I would top, form my personal experience. LST a good thing. I topped the first 3 that I grew and not much plant height. Got 2 going now that I want to top but, am trying to refrain from doing so
I read that you need to do it before day 20 but I’m new to the autos and always ready to try something new
I understand that this is really genotype-specific with autoflowering plants. Some tolerate it better than others. It feels like a risk versus reward calculation. Outdoors, I would train a bit, but I wouldn’t worry about topping/manifolding. The sun’s penetration is so much better than our indoor LED lights, which prefer that level canopy.
