Plant Stem Turning Purple

Looking for advice on how to treat this. I have other plants, same seeds that have green stems

@amosmoses Purple stems are fine. By the looks of it, you could add some Cal/Mag🤘….nice plant gromie!

Magnesium deficiency can cause purple stems . A good cannabis-friendly nutrient system has a significant amount of magnesium, but if you’re using very soft water, or RO water, you may need to add a Cal-Mag to your nutrient regimen. Temperature – Heat or especially cold can trigger red stems in some places. Nice grow good luck

So can low phosphorus, if those faded yellow laves fall off at the slightest touch, I would up the phosphorus. Those could be due to genetics too but that’s about as purple as I have seen on stems if it’s not genetic. The light green color says they may be hungry.

A phosphorus deficiency in plants affects the quality of the older and lower leaves. The leaves become a darker yellow or green with large bronze, brown or slightly blue splotches or spots . The leaves curl and thicken with a stiff feel.

The thing is is that I have 6 other plants all from the same seeds and this is the only one out of the bunch turning purple!

@SlayinAsquirter @Growdoc @John7

Likely it’s a pheno or something genetic. Sometimes there’s a problem child in the bunch. Some plants are just nute hogs too.

Regarding purple stems, here’s one I ran last spring with entire branches purple. It was a purple strain, but point being it happens sometimes. Phenos also might play a part or in some cases you have an actual issue. If that’s the only thing your noticing and the plant otherwise appears fine, I wouldn’t be concerned.

Every grow i’ve ever did the stems turn purpleish. From what I understand it’s a defense mechanism within the genetics of the plants that protect them from the light. (Like suntan lotion to us)

I’ve never had an issue with a purple stemmed plant. I wouldn’t lose any sleep over it

Ok but how does that explain that 1/8 plants is doing that when they are under the same conditions?

Not worried, but curious.

I can’t answer that one as I never paid much attention after I made the initial post (as you did) a long time ago and was told that it was a defense mechanism and not to worry about it.

I just got finished lollipopping seven of my plants and every leaf was purplish. I also have an incredibly strong light. And the purpleing starts very early in veg for me.

Just for the record every now and then in very late flower the main stem will start to purple as well on some plants.

I actually took the time last night to dig up the old post it took me over an hour and a half to find it on a different forum.

In my case the tent was reaching temperatures in the high 80s to low '90s which for cannabis is not a very good thing in the veg stage.

The purpleing was a defense mechanism within the plant when it detects excessive heat.

That was the why that I couldn’t tell you the other day. I hope this helps.
