Hello all. I just wanted to share what I have learned about getting water to the proper PH. It’s only 1 tip, but it’s probably one of the most important things I’ve learned. If you’re like me you keep all your gallons of distilled or whatever water in the garage or a closet.
This I found was creating a problem when I took the water from the garage to the grow room because of the water temperature. I’ve found the PH of the water can vary drastically from only a couple of degrees.
I’ve found I need to take whatever water I’m planning on giving to the plants and put them inside the grow tent until the temperature hits room temp inside the tent.
What was happening is I was checking the PH of my soil plants and it was crazy high. I couldn’t figure out why because I made sure the ph was around 6.0.
I found what I was doing was bringing in the hot water from the garage and checking the PH. Which distilled water should always be around 7.0, but it was always way lower like around 6.0 - 6.5. So I would add my nutrients and check the ph it would be around 4.5 or so. I would then bring the ph up to 6,0 then water the plants with it. Well after that 6.0 water hit room temp I found the PH went from 6.0 to 7.5 or higher.
So when I added that water to the plants once it hit the correct temp the ph was way too high. This is what caused me to have to repot and flush them when I should not have been.
Well I hope someone finds this useful. I am only speaking from what I have directly observed in my environment. If this is not correct or you would like to further add anything please do.
I am still new and once again this is just a direct observation.
Have you confirmed this with the liquid indicator drops or a different ph pen? My little yellow pH tester shit out on me, started getting crazy readings. I always checked against the drops though. Those things saved me.
Hello, my name is Karen and I’m a beginner. I’m growing White Widow and my question is I’m currently growing in Happy Frog Farm and my ph level is very low like 1 . I’m scared to add nutrients dont want to burn my roots. Any advice?
Those ph meters are garbage they’re only good at measuring soil moisture level you need a proper water measuring meter this is the cheapest with the best reviews
That’s the first one I’ve heard of that doesn’t show pH as 7something.
Regardless, until you can accurately measure pH, I wouldn’t start adding nutrients (unless you’re in a living soil).
I also recommend adding a tablespoon of white vinegar to each gallon of water you prepare until you get a meter (that reliably lowers my ph from 7.3 to 6.5 Back when I didn’t have a meter)
