for 25 grams of soil you would add 25 mL of distilled or deionized (DI) water in a 1:1 ratio.
How to Test Soil Using the Slurry Method:
Gather some soil from the test area.
Take the homogeneous sample and add equal parts of soil and distilled or deionized (DI) water in a 1:1 ratio. So, for 25 grams of soil you would add 25 mL of water.
Stir the sample for 5 seconds.
Let it sit for 15 minutes.
Start stirring the sample again after 15 minutes, and take your measurement.
After spending an hour reading and watching YouTube.
I have learned there is not A “proper procedure”
There’s a dozen + 1🤯
But one thing is for sure. 1:1 or 50/50 does not work with bone dry soil at the low level of quantity I was trying to test
I ended up just adding water to it until it reached a testable consistency…
And I used the last 7 rapidtest capsules and took a 2nd sample of 7 out if 10 and compared the results.
They was near spot on.
So it appears 1 part soil and about 4 parts water mixed up and wait about 15mins is as accurate as the little rapidtest green colored capsules .
But all is good, I need to pick up some lime tomorrow for one out of the 10 so I’m good now I think
U dont need much soil to do the slurry about half a centimetre of soil to 30-40 mls of water put it in a jar shake it and then let it settle down then put ur ph meter into the water to get ur reading
Is ur soil to alkaline or is ot to acidic if it’s too alkaline dissolve a teaspoon of coffee into some pH water about 2ltrs and water ur plant it will being down ur ph aswell as giving ur plant nutrients if its the other way use bicarbonate soda to bring ur ph up
The type of soil would definitely make a difference. I use Happy Frog and tbh, I don’t measure i put what looks like an inch or so of soil in a solocup. Then just eyeball distilled water. Its always wet enough to read for me
I was thinking I would use some sort of lime rather then backing soda.
But I’m ok with using whatever will work
I’m still just slightly unsure exactly how to administer said product
I will keep reading up on it today but if you or anyone has suggestions, that would be awsome
