pH Meter Storage

Hello All,

My pH meter suggests that I store it in pH Storage Solution while it’s not in use.

Is this for real or just a scam? Please chime in and let me know how/where you store your meter…

it depends on your meter.
Most of them do in fact require them to be stored in a storage solution.
The one I use has a little sponge in the cover and in the manual it says to put a few drops of distilled water in the cover and store that way.
If your manual says to store in storage solution then that is what would recommend to do.
You can get the storage solution on Amazon pretty cheap.

Don’t want hijack your thread but can I use 7ph calibration solution for storage?

@HappyCamper
I have three meters ranging in cost from 20 - 300$
And the two more expensive ones came one has a actual bottle of storage solution and the other has a sponge in cap that you keep moist
the cheapest one didn’t have anything so I cut a small piece of sponge and place in cap and keep it moist
But agree with @Jmesser80 follow mfg instructions
@SilentHippie you should be able to since most of the solutions Ive purchased have said calibration/storage but check your bottle

@SilentHippie, my GH 7.0 standard reference solution states on the bottle for storage of electrodes.

Good to know, I have that on the way.

My meter manual (which is VERY thin) states: “Store in Storage Solution”. Here’s my Tri-Meter.

It doesn’t say weather to put some storage solution in the cap as I’ve seen some folks do, or in a glass with enough solution to submerge to tip.

Any thoughts on this meter and storing it?

I couldn’t find anything on there website about proper way for storage.
If it were me if the cap is able to hold the storage solution without leaking I would put some in the cap (enough to cover the probe) just be sure to store it upright, just my thoughts on the matter👍

Thanks @Jmesser80, I’m going to follow your advice.

I would suggest as @Countryboyjvd1971 stated and put a piece of sponge in the cap with the solution. My cheap meter was standing in a glass with solution in it, but it evaporates pretty fast. My good meter came with a cap for storing it in solution.

I keep mine in solution when I’m not using it. The cap of my pH meter is meant to hold storage solution, so it makes it really easy. I DEFINITELY recommend the storage solution! Dry probes mean inaccurate readings.

on my ph pen it says if it dries it dies I keep it in recommended storage solution✌️
