@RobS1973 those and the Apera are very good.
@RobS1973 when you do your next ph test make sure you donât add the CalMag and see if you can get your solution dialed in to where you want it. Maybe we can isolate the issue by subtraction.
All righty, I have a full gallon and a half gallon of filtered water filled and sitting out.
CalMag is by Roots Organics.
Whatâs your tds after mixing nutrients? To have ph drop after adding nutrients is pretty common. What i know about ff stuff is that their base recipe is pretty high, so i wouldnât be alarmed to need quite a bit.
However, what you may be seeing is the potassium in your ph adjuster precipitate out of solution. This happens when nutrients arenât completely suspended into solution first. Try mixing a new batch and stir the life out of it and let rest for about 10-15 minutes. Then come come back and stir for another 5 minutes or so. Try adjusting ph after that and see if it isnât a little more responsive.
Does this mean that it hasnât yet fully dissolved and been absorbed by the water and thats maybe why the reading is inaccurate or just needs more up?
@Newt hey buddy quick question. When your mixing up your FF nutes about how much âupâ typically does it take you to get in range for soil? Here we have about a 6.0 after nutes but heâs having issue getting his readings and âupâ to get him in range. Any suggestions to go with @dbrn32 ? I came up empty last night on this. Appreciate any advice you may have. ![]()
Well, at 6.0, I would start with 5ml of pH Up, and then re-measure and adjust more if needed. That said, if using a very low TDS water source, measurements can be very difficult until the newts are fully dissolved.
I believe the TDS was pretty high, I didnât write it down but I believe it was over 2000 when I checked out right after adding and stirring.
Iâll also try measuring TDS and pH right after adding/stirring then again after letting it sit a while and stirring again. Seems that something is neutralizing the pH Up.
Not really. My comment more directed at potential instability of the potassium in the solution. This the reason most nutrient manufacturers have a specific order they recommend mixing in. Chemical reactions can take place and bond some of the elements making them insoluble.
Not sure this is what happened in this case, but a possibility.
@dbrn32 thanks chief!! Iâm still on an upward learning trajectory too lol!!
In all my years of PHing water for grows, fish tanks, hvac and industrial use. It has always taken far more ph up than ph down to affect a change.
Interesting. There is more to this pH adjusting thing than a few squirts of Up/Down!
Thatâs what she said @RobS1973 ![]()

When i was using ff, it would take 3 full pipettes to bring me in the range i needed. This was also with the general hydroponic brand. It does take alotâŚthis was per gallon as well
YepâŚIâve had it happen to me by not mixing in the right order. 10ml of cal mag should drive the ph up quite a bit @RobS1973âŚ4ml/gal in my hydro setup drives the ph up by .5.
I wonder if Iâm better off testing the runoff, then adjusting the pH of the next water only to try raise/lower as needed to keep pH in a reasonable range?
Do that rather than try set pH for every feed and water?
Yes! I put in over 15 cc one night. Thatâs the night I thought my pH meter might be bad and I have possibly killed my plants.
Thatâs when I bought the Aspera 60 kit. So, maybe the other pH meter was right⌠Oh well. The 60 is nice.
And, when I used the new meter on the runoff from the questionable feeding, it was in the mid 6 range, so that was good to see.
Mid 6 is perfectâŚnice. ya the ff nutes tanks the ph hard, more of the tigerbloom and which ever dry nute bloom booster according to the schedule. I got tired of buying ph up lol. Maybe after this run you could try out the jacks 321. With that my ph is at 6.5 with tap after mixing, o adjustment needed. I love that.
