So I had an idea for my first grow I was thinking about my nosy neighbors in my apartment complex who could possibly ruin my grow I live in a (ill eagle:eagle:) state and so I took to my drawing board and this is what I came up with LMK what you think if this could solve any scent issues
2x4 ac infinity tent
x1 ac infinity 6" inline fan + filter (pulling stank out) routed to sealed storage bin
x1 vivo sun 4" inline fan + filter (pushing fresh double filtered in)
And a CO2 bag for fresh CO2
See diagram
*green is tent
*grey is fan + filter
*blue is duckt
*purple is storage bin
*red is air direction
You have to have a sorce of fresh air.
If recirculating the air, at some point it would need to be climate controlled or all you will do is recycle warm air. It may get a little too hot.
Just something to think about.
It would benefit the plants to have air in and out.
JMTCW. Good luck!
I also have a tower fan and 2 osculating desk fans circulating the air as well I just didn’t put that in there, I was hoping that would be enough for temps and air circ, any thing you might recommend if that would not be enough?
Honestly you’ll be better off up-sizing your fans and adding 2x carbon filters, one with a prefilter. You would increase your fan sizes so they can compete with the added carbon filter(s) for odor.
I would do it like this - understanding of course that you only really need a second filter for late flowering/harvest.
That’s how I’d do it because activated charcoal is the best odor absorption material shy of really upping the stakes and investing in activated carbon fiber filters. I’ve done entirely too much reading on odor abatement.
Edit: it’s entirely up to you if you want the inline fans on the inside or outside of your tent. I just sketched them outside for the sake of having more space. Most 4x2 tents are kinda short.
And it will get really wet in there, another recipe for mold and mildew. Recirculating exhaust never ends well, I’ve tried it.
You’ll have better results exhausting into the room, and adding an extra carbon filter if you’re concerned about it. You may be surprised how well one does.
LOL this brought me back to the day of carbon pigs for smelly shoes. Three kids in sports and we would fill panty hose with activated carbon and put in their shoes….
You can actually regenerate the stuff by heating. I am not sure how it would work with cannabis smells. Maybe time to hang some carbon pigs in the tent and find out!
Also changed my tent size to a 3x3 since I have a spare bedroom, I was only doing a 4x2 because my closet has a attic vent but I was still concerned about smell, and wanted to yield slightly larger plant than the 2x4 could too so but is this what you mean ?
Super simple. This is an 8. A 4 will do you fine. Do not need a fiLter IN. I sometimes hook a 6" innduring summer cause dusty here. A co2 bag a waste i believe. Your air recycle with a 6 or 4" fan in the 3x3 will just blow out that co2 bag. I stopped wasting money on them. Open inlet on bottom…just 1. Out through top through filter. I use a dimmer on my fan. Summer she rocks…winter i dial her back a tad. Just for reference i use a 4x8 flower. 2x4 clone/seed. 3x3 auto and mother. Mother never leaves 3x3 until replaced but ill do 4 auto in 3gal in 2x4 at times for fillin. Negative airflow. Do not have to suck tent together but a slight pulling in shows negative. Just my 2 cents. On some things fancy is overkill in my opinion. Lights now…never skimp. I made that beginner mistake. Fans and such are low budget if need. Ligjts should just buy GOOD off the bat. Can grow with a good light in your van…lol
@MattyBear was going to try it this way, but I don’t know how well the fan will be able to push through it twice. I say try it and find out.
A separate fan, and filter combo would work, if that doesn’t.
I’m also in an illegal state. I have 3 different tents, any one of them in flower at any given time.
I have passive intake and only one carbon filter for each tent. The key is negative pressure in the tent. Having an active intake fan can increase the risk of having positive pressure which would basically blow all the scented air out of the tent.
Some carbon filters last longer than others. You can keep one on hand to change out on a schedule or as needed.
Whatever carbon filter you use, someone on here uses it as well. You can find out how long they last, in your particular environment, on this forum for sure.
Also, you can Veg for a while with out a filter to make your filter last longer.
My Thought exactly @NeoGroR And spend North of a 100 bucks for a good carbon filter. I’ve used several different brand carbon filters.
Terrabloom is one that Works good.
As for filter pricing, I was always one to spend big money on the best filter.
Buuut i gave AC infinity a chance . They work well for about 12 months of constant 24/7 use in the Great Lakes region. And for a 1/3 of the cost, I find them worth the price.
If I needed anything in addition to this, would just get one of them air purifiers with carbon sheet in it and place in room with tent. But I suspect a quality filter and fan sized properly will do everything that’s needed.
