I want to share my story, as I’m finally in a place where I can & don’t think anyone here would judge me. Might take me a few posts to get it all out there.
I spent 8 years in the Army. 2003-11. 4 combat deployments to the Middle East. Ended up being too close to a car bomb and had to have my shoulder and many bones on the right side fixed. Naturally they started pain meds as I needed them then. Fast forward a bit and you can imagine I fell to the typical VA pushing pain meds and it wasn’t long before I was addicted.
I went through a lot with the battle and almost won, until a drunk driver hit me head on about a year ago. Multiple broken bones, etc. except this time I was smart and told them NO pain meds. I would be lying if I didn’t say this past year has been the worst of my life. I did it with nothing but anastesia and 3 surgeries later.
I finally found a good pain management doctor who suggested marijuana. At this point I was desperate and got my medical card. It was literally life changing. A week or two into it I wasn’t in pain anymore. A few months later I was off psych meds and sleeping pills. I haven’t felt this good in over 15 years. I started growing more for piece of mind and knowing where my meds come from. I’m just hoping this can give someone hope out there that is going through pain and tired of getting opiates pushed down your throat.
It’s hell coming off them but it can be done and weed can be the answer for some! I’ll add to this more as I’m tired right now. Meds (weed) got me sleeeepyyy.

Great news my friend. Best of luck on your journey. The next chapter is finding that strain that works the best for you. I tend to lean towards Indicas for pain and insomnia. Sativas are my “party” meds.

Thank you! It’s been a challenge. I’ve had 32 surgeries, 22 broken bones so lots of pain. Be surprised what you can live with once you take care of it correctly

Correct, i am a bit of a basket case also, but a lot on this forum suffers from pain in one form or another, lots of ex pats on here also, so if you have something to say the best place would be here, as you are always welcome.

I’ve been in the same place buddy I got hooked on pain meds and then that led to heroin. I was a heroin addict for 10 years and it was so hard kicking that habit. Marijuana has been a lifesaver. I’ve been battling kidney stones here recently and the doctors tried giving me pain meds and I had to tell him no no. I will not go down that road again stay strong my friend

Heard that man, I kept it simple in the story. Many won’t know the agony of wanting them, the cold sweats, anxiety, skin crawls, depression. I’ve had withdrawals so bad I was laying in the shower just screaming, hoping I died. Had no idea I was addicted until I moved and next doctor said no let’s try this. .

Thank you! It wasn’t a direct path as I think no matter what you have to detox unless you have a doctor that actually will help you do a taper dose. Many of them say here’s your taper schedule and the same amount of pills then expect you to do it on your own. It doesn’t work like that lol, at least not for me it didn’t.

Thank you for your service and sacrifice. Please do not feel that you are alone in this battle too. I was lucky and had only one deployment to Iraq and our unit didn’t suffer any casualties or attack but we were a maintenance unit and our 1 year deployment was at the end of the push to Baghdad and before the problems at Najaf.
I do congratulate you for overcoming what had to be a horrible time. I know I cannot take any opiates. I am very sensitive to it as it makes me sick. Please continue to progress. Good luck on your grow if you have started one.

Keep going, I wasn’t far from the bottom. It’s amazing how you feel once you actually commit to change. Before your like yea I can make it to this point, I’ll do just a little. It’s a never ending cycle. Life’s precious, in this day and age people lose sight of it.
Thank you for your service!
There are countless stories just like yours, and if people can get past the stigma of “marijuana” being bad, it’s actually a very useful plant. @Unkindtay
