I’m having trouble with my outdoor grow I dug a 5 gallon bucket size hole in the ground then filled it up with store bought soil and filled them up I added worm castings and organic garden lime both very lightly added cause the soil around where I live is not the best which is where I think I went wrong at first they were looking beautiful and now one is almost dead so I bought a soil test kit and the ph level was super high it was almost darker than the color sample to guage the level it was over 7.5 so I did research and it said to use aluminum sulfate or iron sulfate to lower the ph I was only able to find aluminum sulfate and started using it still with no change what else can I do to correct my problem the two strains are ILGM super skunk and og kush
Not an outdoor grower of cannabis (just garden stuff) but I will kick off the process here.
I am going to guess that the one nearly dead one either got its main root eaten or developed root rot. The stem near the ground is whitish in color which makes me think rot. (Fungus)
The others look like they need food. As they have rooted past your filled in holes they must have gotten into soil with little nutrition. A typical lawn area (I.E. grassy) only has 6 or 8 inches of topsoil. Maybe some outdoor growers will have more insight. If you are testing soil pH you probably need to dig down a foot and away from your potting soil inserts.
I was wondering if I needed to feed every time I tried to feed them I felt like they got worse I’m using the 3 part fox farms nutrients and I keep the water I use around 6 on the ph when I feed but have to use tap water to just water so I stopped feeding what can I do for the fungus and also what do you recommend for feeding I’m open for any suggestions
Solid advice!
Nothing at this point.
Are you saying you ph the water then add feed? If so this is a part of the problem. 6.5 to 6.8 is the sweetspot for soil. Under 6.5 is where the phos starts getting hard to uptake. You want to mix the trio into the water then ph the solution, make adjustments with ph up or down, then feed.
Suggest a 1:1 soil slurry of both your rootzone and the soil outside of your potting soil. Those figures will help you decide the next course of action.
Awesome man thanks I didn’t know you ph the water after the nutrients I thought the water had to be where you wanted it then add the nutrients I also wasn’t thinking about the tap water I have to use it’s extremely high like around 7.5 or higher and then I was watering a high ph level soil with high ph water and couldn’t figure it out why I was having problems wow is there a list for dummy of the month lol I’ve ordered some of the jacks fertilizer the one to help with high ph tap water is there still time to save these plants I figured I’m losing the one for sure but the rest?
Also another stupid question but what do you mean by slurry the soil I’m still pretty new to this and want to learn all the tricks of the trade thanks for everything
A soil slurry is taking a cup of soil and mixing it with a cup of water. ( I think distilled water ) and then reading the ppm/ph? I grow indoors and organically so tbh I’m not 100% but I read a lot and I seem to believe this is what I’ve read. Good luck
@Czelenik
Dang yeah that sounds really simple now that you explain it to me lol. I will do that. I have a ppm meter on it’s way. I didn’t realize how important checking that is or how important ph levels are. I really appreciate the information ![]()
