Ok so I’ve let my pots dry for the last 5 days. I’m going to water them tomorrow! I’ve also added 4 worms to each of my 30 gal pots and 2 to my 10 gal pots. I don’t expect them to do much this grow but maybe next grow. Still haven’t found any decent places that sell the seeds im wanting for cover crops guess I’m being to picky? probably just order something off Amazon.
Also does anyone here do any knf inputs? I’ve just tried making lab. Not sure if it’s ready or wait. Anyone with input for this is welcome. A pic of it is below
I did this with a soil i mixed up the summer before this last and burned up alot of wood i had laying around the house in my composte drum made out of ¼" aluminum. I made sure it was all completely ashes before adding more composte over top of this. I grew in the soil for one season and it still looks good and ready for another season. I only used it for my vegetable plants in 8 gallon pots out on my back deck.
Ofc! This was actually the first knf thread a read on here!
I was just looking for someone who has done it maybe they have a way to tell it’s done? It’s on its 3rd day. After starting it I was like dumbass I should have let the milk come to room temp but first timer I didn’t. I’m not sure if it matters?. It looks like all the videos and such but I’m hesitant . I don’t wanna waste the 8$ it cost to make! ( definitely sarcasm )
Riding the edge with @Roadsideorganics.ok . Nice painted tips. Got your stuff pretty much dialed in Roadside. Small learning curve with nutrient line switch. I like it right here on the edge.
Also getting some good results in the mixed tent. Same spot. On
the edge…grin. Really need my 4x8 back up or another 4x4 from storage. About to go clone crazy. ALL the photo will be cloned then as soon as they root in my cloner I am flipping the 5x5. This will be a juggle. Timing has to be spot on or I will friggin get too much again. Can handle a tight tent but more work and chances of mold/septoria etc. Hitting a weekly spray of Growers Ally as a preventative at lights out. All Calmag has been foliar.
Party on Organic Animals. Keep the thread alive folks. Post more. There are solid threads on everything but this. Most organic threads are personal grows.
Ill follow you up Storm with a Mosh Pit update out here at Lost Hwy Farms. Week 8 on the indoor, its getting harvested in the next few days, half will go straight into the frezer for a fresh frozen wash and press for 4/20.
Out in the Greenhouse all our full season plants are ready to teansplant from 3 gallon pots and into 7-10 gallon pots that they will stay in till mid may when we transplant into their outdoor mounds.
Hey everyone I just had a few questions, I may or may not have made a slight mistake with my soil. When mixing I used the coots method of 3 equal parts, I used native soil/horse pasture dirt- perlite-sphagnum peat moss in the mixing process I added no nutrients at all used cover crop of clover and buckwheat with hay to top the pots which hold around 4.7 cubic foot of soil.
Since my cover crop has already started to germinate and grow do I amend each raised bed and mix completely then use cover crop again or can I top dress throughout the grow to supplement nutrients?? I will be top dressing with build a soil craft blend, thanks in advance!!
I hope I answer this correctly. I use BAS CB also.
I would keep everything intact. I utilize no-till, so I am biased on that front.
I top dress during the grow. Sometimes i chop a little of the cover crop to allow more surface area for dressing. And use what is chopped as mulch-But no disturbing or mixing completely. I try to leave something growing along the edges of the container, to keep exudates going…but it depends. Sometimes not so strict, sometimes I am. Container/plant specifc.
IMHO you did nothing wrong. You may have stumbled into something.
Leave the cover crop going. Work around it. Top dress immediately. Maybe douse the containers with a little bit of compost/AACT tea to inoculate soil?!
@Slug_Life copy that I have compost from last year I can brew up a good tea with and as well I’ll probably place avacado halves in each pot fruit side down to attract some worms, I’m also trying to go the no till method with these permanent beds, also I plan on leaving cardboard outdoors and transferring some local fungi over to each. Thanks for the advice, I feel much better about the situation now haha
In instances where regular topdressing wont perform the best, ive gone and mixed the topdressing with compost and applied it that way, would still let the cover crop grow through without having a topdressing crust build up.
Started doing that as well seems to work better mixing the amendments with worm poo when top dressing.
I also find that if I keep my fingers dirty that helps keep the top from Crusty the clown over…as in I regularly massage the top inch or so where I can.
