Old Soul, New Grow Journal

Started with a Hydro system but time is not on my side, still working the bugs out. Had to go with soil for now. I hope to pick up some Home Grown seeds just to play with before I subject the girls to inexperiance. This grow is OG Kush. I have 4 plants started. Not having a high % getting seeds to crack. As of now I’m 4/11. What has sprouted is looking good. Lights are LED 4’ T-8 Daylight with 2x16’ Red, White, and Blue 5630 12v Grow strips. 6/26 1 month into grow, had to transplant last night. Very happy with surgery, not 1 wilted leaf. Seeds are 2 wks apart. Just had 2 sprouts break ground last night. :sunglasses: :+1:

I call this girl Abby!

Ayyye welcome- following.

@Low , gonna try some outside the box (at least for me). They say Blue light enhances root grow, Red for bloom and White light for Veg. I’m also going to try to stagger my harvest times by a couple of weeks. and last try a few clones to make some hash. :+1:

They do say that. Blue is definitely encouraging for foliage development and red for flower. This of course is all speculation and it’s fun to experiment. I’m interested in the light set up, and how it will perform down the road. Have a back up plan if it’s not up to the challenge?

To clarify… what I meant by it’s all speculation, is that there is a study out in regards to color of light vs how much light a plant needs. It’s controversial, but they are basically saying as long as the plant gets what it needs on a daily basis spectrum won’t play a huge role. It’s just a study. And color has been proven to boost, however how long will that play a role as tech advances? Sorry, random babble… lol.Pretty cool I thought. I think Bruce bugbee is doing the study.

I just transplanted Abby last night, she was in a gatoraid bottle and normally I would just shake it a couple of times and ishe would slip right out. I was amazed at the root ball. I needed to cut the bottle length way to get her out. I lost some of the roots but it was so enhanced she didn’t wilt one bit. Can’t wait to see what happens. Cat

@Low I don’t have a spectrum analizer so I can’t be specific with how much blue/red/white. My backup is the only way I can loose all my strips is if the power supply goes down. I have 8 4’ T-8 daylight bulbs which are running on 2 seperate fixtures. So if I loose a transformer on one fixture the other will work along with the strips. The strips are not the average LED strips these are the HD brightest I could find, they hook into a 410A, 24V PS which has 3 different connects. If all goes out I just raise the blinds. Great thing is with all the light I don’t have near the heat and only burn a fraction of the power. Cat

I thoroughly enjoy the amount of planning you put into it! Very clever.

I like anyone that names their plants!

My frame for my lights are 12’ wire shelves I bought damaged from Lowes for .10 on the dollar, I cut out the damaged part and madejust over 4’. I picked up 2 discontinued T-8 fixtures for $10 and bought a boxs of 12 LED daylight bulbs with one broke bulb for $7. I put 4 shelves together and tied them together with zip ties. 1" conduit on each end which fits through the lip for support. Corners are supported with ratchet cords. Haven’t totaled it yet but my guess is less than $75 for a 4’x4’ grow light. Ahhh he who ewars the crown of The King of Cheap wears a heavy crown indeed. Cat :prince:

@JaneQP Thanks Jane, I’m a old hippy, what can I say, not a tree hugger just believe all living things deserve respect. Weed gives us so much more than we give it. They talk to us, tell us when they are thirsty, to much water or food, to hot or to much sun, or not enough sun. Used for medicinal purposes. They grow up so fast and hopefully go to collage to enhance the minds of young Doctors,Lawyers, Engineers, Artist, Philosophers, Educators, Musicians and the list goes on. They also give us oxygen. That makes them intelligent. The least I can do is give them a cool name. Abby is named for the Beatles Abby road. Its so much better than going to the grow room and saying “hey you guys”. Cat

Transplanted Bea this morning 6/28. I didn’t want to make the same mistake I made with Abby and wait to long. Soil at the bottom of the old home was way to wet, looks like I dodged a bullet. No shock :scream:

Took Carol out from under the zip tent, I think she’s ready for the world.

Debs first set of water leaves just to small to subject to cooler weather and lower RH. Maybe tomorrow.

Took the zip lock baggy off Deb this morning, she’s free to do her thing. No growth on the other girls, Abby sill at 6", Bea at 3". My guess is working on root growth after the transplant.

One thing I did which I’m glad it didn’t turn into a issue was I used old Miracle Grow garden soil for the first transplant. Stuff must be 10 years old. now they all got fresh Stay green garden soil. :vulcan_salute: live long and prosper.

7/2 Abby and Bea have grown another 1/2", Carol and Deb are getting their second set of leaves.
