Northern Growers

Is there anyone here who has done outdoor growing in the upper Midwest? Especially Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan. Looking for advice, etc. Thank you.

Thank you. How late in the year are we typically able to grow before harvest?

Im in Maine, I TRY to let mine get one frost on them, long as its not a killer frost. Seems to make them REALLY start pumping out the crystals afterwards.

Sounds good. Then you harvest and start drying?

i used to do the same thing up in Pa. It gave them a nice color and definitely made them stickier. I didn’t even know of the term trichome.

Same here, I still aint picked up on all the actual terms, I self taught via trial and error over the years. It was my uncle who told me to let them get a frost on em if I could, and you can DEF tell a difference when they get that one wake up call. Its like they kick production into over drive.

If at all possible, give em a few days after the first frost, you WONT be sorry!!!

Oh and I just read your profile. WOW! Thank you for being you and your service. I got drafted for Nam and failed the physical at the time, pure luck. Only peace and happiness from here on out for you and yours.

You aint gotta thank me for anything, honest. I appreciate the sentiment, but I personally never signed up for any of the honorable reasons, I had an uncle who was a Marine when I was little, and I was going to follow in his footsteps or die trying. Come from a long line of military, Marines mostly. And the 5 kinds of cancer I got either in Africa or the middle east, was actually a blessing. I was sterile from a botched surgery as a kid, and the 5 cancers actually made me fertile again, and I had my son because of it. Then, and this is the real mind fuck, 8 months later he was sleeping between his mother and I, he kicked me square in the nuts, righty to be specific. Hurt, didnt it hurt, Im NO stranger to pain, Im a dumbass so Im always staving myself up, Id never felt a pain like that. Few days later it was still sore, and started swelling just a little. Then the next morning righty was the size of a softball, little bigger, and I said ya time to go get it checked out. Turns out Id had the 5 cancers for years, and the kick was the ONLY reason I went. Id had some stomach issuses Id been getting looked at for a while, but the local stomach specialist had just told me I was “perfectly healthy.” Ya well not only was I the only man to ever have 5 of the 7 kinds of testicular cancer, the 5 leathal ones, but I also had less than a 5% chance of survival. I ended up having to sign a waiver at the VA, so they could give me 3 different kinds of chemo, in a way nobody had ever survived before. A MASSIVE dose pretty quickly, 4 months, but it ended up being 6, because they almost killed me so they had to pause. Lost 135lbs, all my hair, and about an inch of height, but Im still here. Guess they didnt realize how stubborn I am, and when they told me I couldnt, there was no way I wasnt gonn prove em wrong. In the end, without the military or the cancers, I wouldnt have my son, so Id make that trade every day of the week and TWICE on Sundays. Ive never once bitched about the cancers or the chemos, because I wanted kids all my life but just knew Id never be able to have any. Ida suffered a lot more in trade for a son honestly. So I spent about the last decade spoiling my son rotten, but also teaching him every skill I know, which is quite a bit honestly. I was a Huey and Cobra helicopter mechanic, and a Huey Crew Chief in the USMC. I got lucky there, got the best job in the Corps. But I also grew up on a small family farm, always turned wrenches, built stuff with wood, welded, plumbing, masonry, Ive done it all, and now taught it to my son. I never worry my son wont be able to take care of himself. Hes 14, born on Fathers day in 2009, and he just ripped my old 4wd John Deere apart, replaced the clutch and rear end, all by himself. I watched over his shoulder, but he did it. Hes also been driving a standard since he could reach the pedals. Ive been blessed to be able to do only what I want, when I want, and got a son. So Im being sincere, when I ask you to not feel bad for me. If I go tomorrow, Ill have had a decade more than I should’ve, and got to raise a son properly. Ill go a happy man.

Man what a story/journey you’ve had. I read this twice and was just amazed by the journey you been on. It’s amazing how the universe makes things right. So I guess getting kicked in the nuts isn’t always a bad thing, wow! I’m so glad you were able to have your son and to teach him your life. A chip off the ole block. We all come here each time to learn and experience different bits of life. Your life would make a movie without doubt. :+1: And a damn good one. I’m just glad that things worked out for you. Energy flows where attention goes. :smiling_face_with_tear:

Right, not many folks get to say a swift kick in the nuts, saved their life.:sweat_smile::rofl: Ive had the privilege of experiencing a few things in life, not many folks get to. It was on my Huey, the UN “weapons inspectors” flew around on in Iraq, looking for the infamous WMDs in 2003. I was one of the first folks to go into Iraq back then. Wed already been deployed, and extended twice, when they stopped the USS Nassau, and told us we were going back to war. I was deployed almost 2 years straight, before being allowed to come home, and then they just unleashed me on the world. No psych eval, no classes how to deal with the stress, nothing. But I wouldnt change a thing. Ive been told a few times I should write a book, maybe one day I will, I just dont think the story is over yet.:sweat_smile::rofl: Maybe when I get a little older.

Sounds great! I will give it a whirl. Do you grow in pots or just in the ground?

I start them in small starter containers. But soon as theyre a foot tall or so, I transplant them into my soil inside the tires. I end up choking them up a time or two before Im done.

Oh Ill tell anyone who will listen, if only so men know, if ya nuts hurt, pee on a pregnancy test. If it comes back positive, RUN to the Drs. Men who pop positive on pregnancy tests most likely have testicular cancer. The test looks for a protein that pregnant women, and cancer make. Not even gonna lie, STILL boggles my brain to this day.

That info might just help a lot of men. I for one will do that. I;ve had a pain in my left nut since a teen, at least 55 yrs ago. It comes and goes and when it comes it’s very uncomfortable. Travels down the leg and up the back. I told Drs. In one ear and out the other. Well I’m going to try that. It’s been enlightening and great talkin with ya. :+1:
