I started inside to early this year I think. My plants are five weeks old and I topped them a couple of days ago. I have also been bringing them outside the last few days to get some sun. The daytime temperature has been in the seventies but the night time temperature has been in high forties to lower fifties. I need to put them in bigger pots. Do you think it’s to cold still to move outside for good?
Aw puppy, love my doggie assisassistant…I’m south of Boston and the earliest I put them outside is May 15th.
Experimenting by putting out 4 plants earlier this week…forcast low tonight is 39…might wrap them in a blanket just to be sure.
Planning on doing the in ground garden this Saturday…started on St. Patricks day and the lady’s cant wait to be outside.
Holy shit that’s alot of plants, lol.
What do you have on top of your soil in the outside pots?
If you are a good ways above the mason dixon line id wait another week or two depending on your local forecasts
I probably should start giving them some nutes then because it’s been just water in happy frog soil.
Those are rice husks, they are a perfect mulch, started using last year, they keep weeds down. Plus I sprinkle the top with “diatomaceous earth” all around the plant to keep bugs from crawling up. Its like broken glass to bugs.
Thanks to the forum for the years of helpful suggestions!
Set up a makeshift greenhouse. Use stakes in the corner wrap in plastic drop cloth and cover the top with plastic too. Keeps the heat in for the next few weeks. Just remove the top plastic during the hot days.
I have the same issue. I’m about 7 weeks into mine
Just put all my tomato plants out today in covered rows, im in NNY near Canada, lows in the high 40’s low 50’s should be just fine as long as your root zone is protected!! The greenhouse idea is great but even with 70’s out and no outside airflow it will overheat fast!!
Living most of my life gardening in the finger lakes of nys.frost is possible up to first week of June.
Should you put your plants out be prepared to cover them. Also until the ground warms your plants will just sit there with virtually no change.,then boom they grow like crazy.
A risky call but if your prepared for frost or able to cover them I suppose one could…
Our general rule to put plants in was Memorial Day.Some years we lost all of them but not that often.good luck.
I don’t know what is more beautiful, your plants or your puppy Happy Growing
Tagging and outdoor cultivator @Oldguy any suggestions
@OGIncognito Thanks for the tag brother.
@Czcon12 Your Temps are a lil warmer than here but like the others have said , be prepared for frost.
Ive had mine out by the middle of May due to height restrictions inside from an earlier start.
Had a couple lighter frosts. They took it ok but did stall for a few days after.
We’re at almost 15 hrs sunrise to sunset here now. Yours should be similar.
Photos should be ok to put out now so far less chance of reveg.
Best of luck and happy growing.
Thanks all,
I’m going to go for it this Sunday. After tonight it’s going to be around 50 for overnight, at least that’s what the long term forecast shows. I have 25 gallon pots to put them in. And thanks to the poster up above about the rice hulls idea I’ll be ordering some.
They’ll be ok outside but may get temporarily stunted until it gets a little warmer. I put my peppers and tomatoes out. They aren’t dying, but they aren’t growing either. Weather does look like it will be a little warmer for the next week.
What strains are you growing?
Zkittles photos
Nice! I was considering that strain. Keep us updated on how it goes.
Just an update, transferred to bigger pots around mother’s day. Been doing pretty good but something has started eating at a couple of leaves. I’m thinking of topping again.
They Look good.
If you don’t they’re really going tower over your fence by the time they finish.
Might have to lose the boxes if concealment is part of the plan tho.
