Noob - First Grow - Thanks!

Noob here. Just wanted to thank you all for generously contributing your knowledge to this forum. I managed to make it to nearly 60 years of age without every having grown anything, and although I’ve not posted here yet, I’ve been reading almost daily.

My first grow. Indoors. Vivosun tent. Two VS1000 LED grow lights. Just flipped them into the flowering phase. 1 Bubble Gum, 2 White Widow, 3 AK-47. Didn’t mean to grow six plants in a 3x3 grow space, but a couple of my first 3 seedlings didn’t look like they were gonna make it—so I planted some replacements—but they wound up thriving. Go figure. 11 weeks:

Some things I’ve learned with this first grow:

  1. Initially I ignored pH. Dumb. Ended up having to do a pH flush. Plants thrived after that. Been using distilled, pH corrected water since then. Plants had started showing signs of calcium and magnesium deficiency, which are plentiful in our ridiculously hard water.

  2. Still figuring out nutrients, but cal-mag has become indispensable especially with distilled water. I’m giving cal-mag with every watering and Fox Farms nutrients every other watering. So far no nutrient burn.

  3. Getting a CO2 system was probably overkill and a waste of money. Live and learn.

  4. AK-47is a great beginner strain. It’s damn near impossible to kill. White Widow is a little sensitive to light stress as is Bubbble Gum. The former with bleached leaves. The latter with ‘painted fingernails’.

  5. This is an active, NOT a passive enterprise. Expect to put a lot of work into a grow.

Well done on the crash course. Bad thing about distilled water is it’s missing necessary minerals like calcium :love_you_gesture:

@Thaistick64

I noticed your grow bags

Did you put those extra grommets in yourself or did they come with it?

My new bags had 4 grommets to start with and I added 8 additional myself.

you can get those with them already put in?

I noticed those grow bags with the grommets too. Were those made or purchased that way.

Ur garden looks great specially for ur first grow if u want a cheaper CO2 you can make it at home i do it all the time and i get good results this is how i do it , i find a three ltr bottle i paint it white first and then black to stop the light from penetrating inside the bottle once ive done this i put two ltrs of warm water into a jug and i add two cups of sugar i stir it until it is desolved then i add two teaspoons of yeast and stir it then i tip it in the bottle then i will cut up a tomato into smaller pieces and place them into the bottle with the lid u want to put one small hole in the top or you can put two holes ur choice then i hang it over ur plants in ur tent every time u go and have a look at ur plants just shake the bottle and let it go this should last for two months if u want it to last longer add more sugar

Welcome to the community.

Something I learned when I started that I will share.

Distilled water with 0 ppm the pH will adapt to the soil pH because there is nothing in it.

After you add the call mag to distilled water then it has something in it that you can measure and adjust the pH.

Hope this helps, your plants are looking great!
