New Viparspectra 1200W - Flowering height

Greetings Everyone,

I received my new Viparspectra 1200W (non-dimmable) and hung it yesterday over my 5 plants that are ready to go to flower. I set the light at 34” above my canopy.

The manual that came with the light says to position the light at 24 to 28” above the canopy for flower mode.

My question is this, once I set my grow light at 24 to 28 inches above my canopy, do I leave it at that same position for the entire 8 to 9 weeks of flowering, or do I continue to adjust it up over my canopy as it stretches out?

My grow room area dimensions are 3.5 x 4.5’

I started out with Viparspectra’s. I believe you need to be somewhere between 18-24 inches. Once you start stretching you can adjust accordingly.

@Bulldognuts Are you still using Viparspectra?

No, I had 2 450w. Used them on first grow. As far as vegging plants they did a great job. Even during Flower my plants looked great. After harvest I noticed that buds were light and airy. I will admit that my inexperience probably was part of the issue. After doing some research I was able to determine that lights are the most important factors in producing dense, heavy buds. I started second grow using Viparspectra’s and again plants did well during veg. I upgraded to two 260w Rspec LEDs from Budget Led. Got them in the tent right before I started Flower. There was a huge difference in bud development. Grow conditions were the same as first grow. But the difference in density and weight of buds was huge. I still use Viparspectra’s to start seedlings and into early veg. Once I get plants transplanted I start using better lights.

I would play with it dropping it a inch at a time get down in that 18 24-inch range. See how plants respond. I have used the 600 an I will mirrror The @Bulldognuts Mine did grow some pretty plants buds not as dense as you might like.

Yep, as far as Amazon led lights go they are not to bad. Like I said I still use them. Like I also pointed out I think experience plays a role in anybody’s ability to grow dense buds. Hopefully we all can continue to gain that experience.

i used the 1200 a cpl years ago and did a good job for veg. like others said, flowering was light, airy buds but good smoke. I kept mine 18-20 inches from canopy and adjusted as they grew. just remember to have the veg and bloom switches both on during flowering. Good luck. Plants look good!

Hola!!! I have the par600 same model. Cut a string 24" long. Tape it to the side of the light. Helps eyeball your distance! My par600 seems to work best in all phases of growth.

Ooops works best within 22" 24". Anything closer seems to burn sh!t up… Hope that helps…

Update on my flowering with my new Viparspectra. First, my vague grow journal (just since install of new light);

3/27 Install New LED Light
3/28 Water 1/2 gal Each
3/29 Dropped Light to 23” to start Flower
3/30 Fed 1 gal week 5 ffs 50% @ pm
4/2 Water 1 gal each and raised lights 1”
Average height 24”
4/7 Fed 1 gal week 6 ffs 50% @ pm
4/10 Water 1/2 gal Each
4/11 Water 1 gal each and raised lights 1”
4/14 Fed 1 gal week 7 ffs 50% @ pm

Now for pics taken this morning;

In the middle of week 3 and I have bunches of budlets forming. What I like about this grow light is the lower temps and less heat stress on my girls.

I have the following growing (all seeds from ILGM)

SSH - 10% Indica 90% Sativa THC 18%

GG - 50% Indica 50% Sativa THC 26%

AK47 - 35% Indica 65% Sativa THC 20%

StrawK - 75% Indica 25% Sativa THC 18%

BanK - 60% Indica 40% Sativa THC 27%

I have 2 Par600s same maker. I have found anywhere between 22/24" works best. Anything lower, it seemed to fry um.
