New to growing cannabis and seedlings soil is not exactly in the optimal range

My personal opinion is that they throw out seeds at end of life to continue the strain. I don’t know if there is any scientific backup behind this for plants.

I have read articles about fish and amphibians under environmental stress can be intersex.

PS All the free seeds I have sent out have been female.

Hahahaha thats one thing i overlooked, no more males ! That was a let down when i had to pull out half of my plants and destroy them because of males. I hope mine will be all female but i doubt it because yours came from Feminized seeds. The ones I’m finding are from who knows what.

There most certainly is - one of the things I try to express to people is that every female cannabis plant is genetically coded to continue reproduction. If pollination hasn’t happened by a certain point in the lifecycle, it will usually force it to happen. In nature, that threshold can be much much longer than an indoor grow cycle.

I believe firmly that if I grew any female cannabis plant, and let it flower long enough, it will reproduce on its own. The thing about hermaphroditism that’s problematic is when we accidentally breed in a shorter “panic button.” I.e. if my plant begins to self-replicate 4 weeks into flower instead of 24 weeks into flower. We see lots of hermaphroditism in early stages due to, in my opinion, a lack of awareness of the fact that all plants have the predisposition. If you start with that, it’s a lot easier to watch a flowering plant for when, not if, and to selectively breed the ones who don’t exhibit “panic button” behaviors until after the usual harvest period.

That was a really basic and short version of my thought process, but that’s the concept anyway. :v:

Makes sense to me otherwise there wouldn’t have been much cannabis growing to be discovered or even make it to the point of discovery. It would’ve went extinct due to the heavy competition it has with the surrounding vegatation. It would’ve been choked out.

Got my harvest drying now. 56-61 RH 68°
No weight on it yet. Once I’m loading the Grove Bags I’ll have it all weighed out.

I added a UV light bar a few weeks into flower. I don’t have a baseline to compare, but I like to think it’s the reason my buds are bulking up rapidly. It could be in my head.

@anon34311147 — Nice grow, Dawg! I can almost smell it from the midwest!

Is it UVA or UVB? Only run it for a few hours everyday.

I got the idea from @Hellraiser and bought the same bar he procured. It’s UVA and I run it 12/12 during flower. When I open the tent to water, check progress or just to oggle, I turn it off — I don’t need any extra UVA on my face.

I’m hoping i didn’t harvest too soon man. Now I’m having cold feet…lol… geees… this is nerve wracking… first harvest and I’m being super critical of myself. I left some behind still attached. Theres still more matureing in my tent. So, ill have a spread out harvest from different times according to trichome discolorations at each stage. Cloudy/clear, Cloudy/amber and amber/cloudy. This way on my next harvest i will know exactly when to do so…

Good choice! You can run UVA all day. HLG is a great company… i have 3 of their lights and more on the way. I figured this will be my new collection. LED grow lights from HLG.so far i have the 200 Rspec, 300L Rspec and the 320 Rspec FR (far red).

@anon34311147 — I think I need to look into getting more lights. I have just that bar and a Mars Hydro 300W.

LOVE HLG after one transaction.

I just always test it out. If it is an added step that gives no benefit I don’t do it again.

They have great customer service also. Any questions you have concerning lights they answer. I like having a few smaler lights over one big powerful one. I mean dont get me wrong id love to have a Diablo Scorpion 800 Rspec or something but what if something would go wrong with it in mid flower? At least with 3 separate lights to get that 800 watts, if one goes bad i still have light while i am waiting on rhe replacement light from HLG headquarters.

How do you test yours? What drying meathod do you use? Is the high the same before dry and cure as after?

I don’t smoke it only grow it.Tarzan says more of a head+body buzz after curing and better flavor.

My perfect scenario for drying is a tent with a humidifier and fan. But since my youngest moved out it is an unused bathroom with a humidifier and a fan.

I am taking down three big outdoor plants plants this weekend.

There are a lot of ways to dry. Some use wardrobe boxes or paper bags for sweating or wedyers or humidors.

I don’t have time to attend to 10 outdoor plants drying. Sometimes they overdry and I have to add citrus peels or something to get the moisture up when I start the bottle and burp phase.

Let me tag in a few that can tell you their drying methods

I use a Wedryer. The big 1 can handle a lot. If overdry can add fresh fan leaves to raise rh.

I now have to use wardrobe moving boxes. I have 2 4x4 tents but lithely tale up a lot of space for drying. I can stack 4 wardrobe boxes in the same space. Then I transfer to paper bags for a ‘sweating’ of the buds. I used to use my tent. I still put a fan on the cardboard box
