New looking for advice

So ive started my first grow and i believe things are going good right now. I have ion frame evo 3 light and ive just followed what the book has told me as far as height and power. It recommended for the seedling stage to have the light 18 inches away on lvl 4. Thats what ive been running and things look good as of now im on day 10 above ground. They arent stretching and color looks good but the book says for veg i should leave it at 18 inches but up the power to lvl 8. And the research ive done also say to up intensity after seedling stage and after veg. So my question is: How do i know when to do that if everything looks good and its not asking for light or stretching? Should i just up the lvl by 1 every two days until im to lvl 8 and see plants reaction? Is only 10 days above ground to early?

        Any advice appreciated thanks

Hola @tryingtotry

Going to get many answers but here’s my suggestion…

Get either a quantum meter from Amazon or the Photone app.

It is much easier to go by how much light the plant is receiving per day =DLI or at a moment = ppfd.

Here’s a couple of charts depending on if you are growing autoflower or regular Photoperiod.

Auto

Regular

Quantum sensor or par meter… This is an example:

https://www.amazon.com/PHOTOBIO-LGBQM2-Advanced-Quantum-Micromols/dp/B08HPGLZHL/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?crid=1PIHBM76H1OPZ&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.5k_LYsiyKYAi-igyLX2PmJpENZ-hsc2sknql_llhSk0kYVmRTxHNAxQrvH8gnxIBuQGEVNZGjmC6H6ulwdDfhHmJnyOARGeneAgcKPpePVtqN2VkeRkWUZDsp5qwTEtakRKj_v6C1ZrfYbJpDG8H2HcJkcATnD7zaNZCw489zSIVIMCtUimg9Wz-6axqWz4t2hObXa1uW1GXO_LpupIczQ.vNpHdsA4YdL4HEwtmnpWUKMUoqCe_428seGpskE7iyo&dib_tag=se&keywords=Quantum+meter&qid=1710300122&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011&rnid=2470954011&rps=1&sprefix=quantum+meter%2Caps%2C1092&sr=8-4

This will possibly upset some… But a lux meter is for interior design… Not plants… That said others use them… There are “conversions” but I don’t trust them after doing some homework.

ty for ease and the right now availability i just got the photone app (although little skeptical of accuracy) but actually seems like its pretty close was at about 11-12 for my light on lvl 4 and i upped it to lvl 5 and its at about 16 at ‘‘canopy’’ so being they are on day 10 i will leave it on lvl 5 for few days before i up it for week 3. ill watch closely and see how they respond… And im not to tech savy is taking pictures and posting them on here simply explained? im on a pc but can use phone for pics just not sure how to transfer them to my posting here

           thanks for quick response!

Appreciate it! if this photone app isnt accurate or my plants react negatively to the light even though the app says its close i will look into a real meter ty so much

Perfect tysm so one last thing (for now lol) if my ppfd is good which means my dli is good will that make the ideal nodes spacing or is that based off something different?

Look good… Mine are about the same right now.

Are yours Autoflowers or regular Photoperiod?
What strains?

I am not versed in the art of autoflower. But have read here that you can go 24hr light per day…

Photos…initially I go 24 hours at 200 ppfd… Once they are big enough they goto 18/6 light schedule fir 6-8 weeks.
Then 12/12 for flower… Just wanted to be clear on dli.

Mode spacing can be genetic and using blue or red light…

I use a Bspec HLG300L to veg… Usually pretty tight node spacing… At flower they got under hlg 550 Rspec. They get leggy over the first three weeks… Double to triple in height. Then buds just stack and mature.

Nice! Mine are photos Gorilla Glue #4s the feminized photo ones not auto, I got them from Seed Supreme. Ive had mine on 18/6 the whole time and as of now im just sticking with the one light and the two plants because its my first grow and wanted to make sure i could fight the fight and get them all the way through flower with decent bud. After all the research I did prior i wasnt about to act like first time was gonna go perfect and produce phenomonal bud, although im tryin! The lights are full spec so red and blues if my very little knowledge of it is correct, hopefully good enough for the two plants to produce some good smoke! But my end goal is potency in future grows!

Do you have the phototone app? If so can you tell me the kelvin you get under the bspect?

Doesn’t matter how tight the buds are or how much you pull per plant. It will be yours, something that you alone did. It will taste great, you will share with friends and be proud of it. Nothing like growing your own

I do have the app.

I could… However I need parameters…

The lights height above meter desired?
Light set on high at that height?
I assume you’re asking for LUX reasons?

I also have both a cheap Amazon quantum sensor and a couple apogee quantum light sensors… An extended par and a uv-a

I have three android phones all with different light sensors as well.

@dbrn32 is awesome with lights.I better stay out of the light deal. If you were in scrogs. How I run mine with a watt meter would help  @Growmoredank if you don’t get the answer for the B spec. @Myfriendis410 uses a B spec for veg.

@Not2SureYet yes… @dbrn32 is awesome… He helped me pick out my current lights.

You can use app or sensor and measure, or just thumb eyeball your increases. Either way, you should absolutely increase intensity slowly and give some time between increases. Also keep in mind that plant will see increased light intensity as it grows closer to light source.

Yes I can agree with that somewhat I mean im sure just like most of us here ive been smoking for quite some time and my end goal here is potency! I can be proud of my own grow and smoking buds ive grown but im also a realist and if its not good then its not good. just trying to grow under best conditions and hope i got a decent strain that provides some potent smoke. Yield really doesnt matter that much to me or tight buds or anything really other than quality so hopefully i can achieve that with a few grows under my belt. If anyone knows from experience some good strains they personally grown that has been tested with a 20% thc or better lmk thanks!

Godfather OG, heavy hitting. One of my favorite grows.Presently give Fat Bastard a go this round.GFOG was a very forgiving easy grow.
Good luck in your adventure.Keep a journal you’ll be surprised how much you can learn from it.

I’ve never had mine tested but friends have said it is very good. You got to start with good genetics and i❤️gm has some top notch genes. This is the only seed bank i have ordered from so there could be better out there but im happy. California dream and Bruce banner is listed above 20% and i believe the dos si do is listed close to 30%
