New grower organic coir autoflowers, week 5, preflower, possible issue?

I’m ready to see this!! Gonna be wild! I know it will be coming from you!

That’s funny, I was going to ask about water ph. That’s awesome about the ph being perfect with Gaia Green! I was hoping to avoid using RO water due to the waste water produced. I’m in the desert so water is scarce. I’ve been using dechlorinated tap with the ph adjusted for watering between 6.5-6.8. Is there any issue continuing this way? It’s typically 7.8 out of the tap, at least it has been for the last several weeks.

I suppose I should test adding Gaia Green to the dechlorinated tap and see what the ph is. I’m fine with continuing to ph my water if needed.

That IS an absolute monster! It’s like it’s bowing to you. A result I can strive for

Chitty I dig your kiddie pool for soil mixing. I don’t have space for that, but am using a large storage tote. The high sides help avoid mess and I’m only mixing enough for two 5 gallon pots anyway. I’m interested to see your results with the Promix.

Test it a find out bud! I understand not everyone can use RO. Look into the zero water?

I bet it will get you close and no nothing wrong with phing your water down before using it, I would suggest it.

I mix my Gaia in water to keep dust from floating around and getting in the buds during flower.

@Frogbutt
This is the monster I was talking about! About 1 week into flower… probably 9-10 weeks left… I see a lot more sativa than Humboldt told me haha!

Iv literally treated this like I would have a clone years ago, topped, defoliated, lollipop a couple weeks ago, everything I could have to cause minor stress to slow it down… I have room for her now but I can’t speak 2 week from now… time will tell haha!

@Autos-only Wow! That’s only 1 week into flower? Is that a 3 or 5 gallon pot? She is going to try and take over your grow space. Very impressive!

So I did test adding Gaia Green to the dechlorinated tap water. The 4-4-4 had ph at 6.7 and the 2-8-4 ph was 6.9. So that’s pretty good! Are you mixing the Gaia Green with water when you do your feedings? How often do you feed?

5 gallon pot, yea I mix with water to keep dust out of buds.

I start with 5 tablespoons of 444 in 5 gallon pots, next top dress is 1tbs 444 2 tbs 284 then final is 3 tbs 284.

Is each feeding amount total tablespoons, or per gallon of media?

That is total, for 5 gallons. You can also do 1tbs per week breaks down to the same amount and also feeds bacteria more frequently.

Also, I run autos and they feed different.
Each auto I run feeds differently,
This is my starting point for unknown strains. It’s a good amount, it won’t leave them hungry by any means but some might benefit from a little more. Iv always had better results with using less.

Wow, that’s a lot less than I would have thought. The Mr Canucks method (which I was following) is 3 tablespoons per gallon of media, he does 3 feedings as well (for autos anyway).

When mixing media: 70% 4-4-4, 30% 2-8-4
Week 3: 50/50 4-4-4 and 2-8-4
Week 5 or 6: 70% 2-8-4, 30% 4-4-4

I think I underfed week 5. I’d imagine Canuck’s stuff is really dialed in and can take advantage of all the available nutrients.

Do you add any EWC?

If I had space for a clone tent, I might try photos but that doesn’t look likely. I’m liking autos and will stick with them for the near future.

I’m looking forward to seeing how your monsters do!

Iv watched his videos and think he is an amazing grower, I don’t understand how he feeds so much, I really don’t. He was the reason I even looked into Gaia and did some research of my own in the brand.

When I started using Gaia I did half of his feeding and modified it some just based on autos and years of experience and even that was too much.

He runs three times the manufacturer recommendation!
Iv had amazing results running about 80%.-100% (strain dependent)

Yes I do use EWC and love them. I mix then in the start of the soil and sometimes right before flower.

Iv took some info from people like Matt like youve mentioned and Jeremy from build a soil and came up with a system that works for me, iv only been growing organics for two years now. It’s challenging and difficult and so are autos. Because it’s difficult it keeps me entertained. I use to grow the synthetic way from flood and drain tables, DWC, EBB. rock wool (I don’t even know if rockwool is still used? Even played with hempy for awhile… anyone remember hempy growing? It was a bottom feed reservoir with perlite some people used vermiculite also, Coco… you name it iv won that t shirt, now I want something iv never played with and starting from seed every time with something some people think trash (autos). But good results will always happen in the hands of experience.

Like many people with lots of experience and expertise I think Matt makes it look easy but there’s bound to be issues if someone hasn’t done it before (me) or is lacking the experience to know what to do when things go wrong (also me). But it’s fun learning!

I came across his videos a while back and liked the idea of using coir and not having to feed with every watering along with good aeration and less potential bugs. Coir is more available to me than other soils or soil ingredients so that’s another reason I wanted to use it.

He uses a lot of Gaia Green, but I did come across someone here who uses even more! Green sneks 4th grow 8 auto strains in coco in a 4x4 I’m not sure what pot size is being used but even so, I don’t see how all those nutes can get used by the plant without overfeeding.

I like your approach: difficulty=entertainment. I agree, my thinking is along the lines of if something is challenging then those challenges I want to try to solve and not just give up or go to another method if something doesn’t succeed immediately. It’s also fun to prove people wrong when they say something won’t work or is impossible. Not to gloat but just to solve it or discover something new and hopefully better for me and my situation. I had actually posted for help in a different forum (before I found ILGM) and while some people were ok, most were trying to tell me the way I was doing things was wrong, or to switch to soil, or that I’ll eventually hate autos, etc. I just wanted some help! I’m glad to have found that helpfulness here.

You’ll get it man! It just takes practice and finding what works best for you.

Honestly I want to try it myself.

I have no experience with photos to compare autos to! Maybe that helps

@Autos-only @ChittyChittyBangin Time for another update! This week is week 14, week 9 of flower. More trichomes are turning amber which is my goal. I’d prefer more of a couch lock, pain relieving effect.

The yellowing seems to have stopped progressing since giving more phosphorus. There are still a few leaves turning yellow and dropping off, but I think that’s more end of life related as it’s a lot slower than before.

What do you gents use to gauge readiness for harvest? Many people use trichomes as the indicator, but I’ve also seen others who ignore trichomes and go by calyx swelling. Representative picts are attached.

How are everyone’s grows progressing?

I go by trichomes. They never lie :rofl:

Thanks! I am very happy with the results. Hopefully in the next few weeks (next week would be nice!) they’ll let me know that they’re ready.

Trichomes was my plan to judge ripeness. :+1:

@ChittyChittyBangin @Autos-only Hi folks! Sorry I haven’t updated in a while, been dealing with a lot of personal stuff.

I need opinions on what is going on here. Is this a hermie? This is the Critical, two different buds. I just noticed this a day or two ago. I was hoping to harvest end of this week, which would be week 17. (of course, I’ve been hoping to harvest for several weeks now, but trichomes are finally getting closer to what I want). The NL looks fine so far. :crossed_fingers:

It wouldn’t surprise me if they got stressed as temps and humidity have been extreme here for a few weeks and show no signs of letting up soon. Temps are 81F with lights on and there isn’t anything I can really do right now to bring that down. At least humidity is in the 40s!

I appreciate any thoughts on picts and what to do next (harvest?).

Yes sir unfortunately that’s what it looks like, I would pull them off and keep going, watch for any more.
