New Grower....Old dude

Ok I’ve been soaking up all sorts of great info …I feel kinda like I’m just trying to get my training wheels off and get on the road with the big kids!

I’m very new at all this… sort of, it’s been about 40 years! Retired now so it’s time to quit giving a shit about what others think …

I started three plants about a month ago and only had success in getting one out of the ground… kind of a seed issue…

That said: they seed issue was resolved and I’m back under way…

This is the first one that’s a month old now, I think I have everything where it needs to be now and I have a A seedling that’s about a week old. I’ll let them grow side by side…

One question I have… my strain is Blue Dream, picked it out of the blue based on a description not experience.

I think the plant looks healthy enough but as I just checked on it, it now has sort of a blue hue to the tops of the fan leaves?

Is this typical for this strain?

Yes… BLUE dream LOL! My last grow had a Blue Dram and a Sour D and the BD really did have a blueish tint to the leaves. Looks like you’re spraying them? Just be careful not to have the leaves wet while the lights are on… spray just before lights out, but wondering why you’re spraying?

Welcome to the community ! Plant looks to have plenty of nitrogen available. (Leafs very dark green) also are you pruning the new growth off ? Personally I don’t usually spray the foliage.Just my thoughts good luck

That was kind of a random thing I did, I had just topped the plant and fear I went in a little early after the last topping so I spritzed a couple times… I have read it doesn’t help so I likely won’t do it again…

I think I stunted her when I tipped her too early but she seems to be making a comeback…

Learning about indoor grows as I go here, this is my first foray into indoor growing…

As long as my older plant is making a comeback I’m cool… I have a seedling that is about a month behind and I’m planning to flower them both at the same time in mid to late January…

And I am wide open to any and all insight… does it look like I should back off the nitrogen a bit? I have been feeding with. Light mix every other day… maybe I should bump that to every other watering and go with just water in between?

Some of the info here is overwhelming… I have taken great care to set up my little grow room. I have an old house (1865) and my basement is one of those old creepy basements… affords me great privacy!

My room is pretty well sealed up and I have mechanical ventilation directly to an unused glue in my chimney…

I have decent intake air through my door and have set up a CO 2 feed with a 5 gallon pail, sugar water and yeast set up pumping to a fan to disburse in the grow area…

I run my heat in the mid 70’s and have the heat shut down on a timer the same as my lights… it drops to the mid to upper 60’s when the lights are off…

I’m currently feeding with a mix that’s 32-10-10… I’m not feeding my seedling anything but water yet until I get her a couple nodes high…

I’m set up to add humidity but without it I’m running in the neighborhood of 35% without …

My seedling seems to be taking it’s time getting going…

Yeah ! you might start feeding every other time. Also check your PPM runoff to verify where you’re at. If possible fill out to ilgm support ticket will get you more feedback.

Your temperature when lights off might be too low and slowing growth. I don’t grow indoor, but you want to have your environment as close to the climate for the strain, Blue Dream, try a Mediterranean summer temps, mid-upper 80’s light sessions, upper 70’s dark. If you have high humidity, have plenty of air flow in grow area to keep out mold. Filter incoming outside air to keep out as many pathogens (spores) as possible and keep grow area “clean”, no piles of stuff in dusty cellar that can be a big problem (dust/spores). Filter outgoing air through carbon to keep neighbors guessing or vent at roof level for the breeze to carry away. All of this might seem daunting but if you take your time and set up right, you could have plants in rotation that would give you fresh buds every 90 days. Good luck and always good to see ‘Old dude’ (me too!!) Gotta do something for ‘retirement’…lol

Ye, I’ll kick up the temp a bit, easy enough, hasn’t thought that this strain would like it a bit warmer…

My ventilation is piped directly to an unused flue in one of my chimneys and that goes to the peak of my roof so I have smell covered…

I am pretty diligent about keeping my little grow space tidy… I have had some little gnat type bugs coming from my soil, keeping a fan blowing pretty good over my plants and grow space and spraying a bit around the base of my containers to keep them at bay…

I’m eyeballing another space which is a bit larger to convert so I can have a veg room and a flower room but I’m gonna work with what I have for this grow…

Hopefully bringing up the temp a bit will encourage my seedling to get cracking!

I appreciate all of the insight and input!

Like Steve Miller said: Sit around, get high and watch the tube…
Being old and retired, I can sit here and watch my plants die, minute by minute.
I don’t care! I will still dry it and smoke it!

They super lush green, which means they happy and rooting big time, just make sure to transition in bloom and you will do great.

I’m newer too. Everything is crazy nowadays with all of the information available. I just had a successful 1st harvest but definitely learned so much that I can do next time. Research your strains,. They all need different things. Be patient and don’t feel bad about asking questions. This is the best group ever!! #ILGM

Ok, today is a watering day, I skipped the fertilizer and gave a big drink of fresh water only… I also trimmed off a couple large
Fan leaves at the bottom…

As you can see, I topped my plant and it split nicely… but then I got ahead of myself
And topped it again… too soon and it’s struggling for success…

My seedling is kinda static… it popped, I planted it in soil, it
Came
Up but it’s taking it’s time doing much more than that…

I have upped the temp to a good 85 while the lights are on, I’m also putting a decent amount of fan wind on my bigger plant, the stalk is getting thicker
And looks good and strong…

Waiting really sucks!

I was wondering if you have a fan in the area ?
That and did you add more humidity? 40-60%
And how is the exhale CO2 bag working for you? I have one but I haven’t used it yet.

I have a humidifier but stopped running it… I was wondering if I should be running it again… I’m currently at 30 - 35% constant…

Moving that air around with fans is helping with those little gnats too…

I really don’t know if My CO2 is a benefit or not, no way to really tell but since it’s easy, I’m gonna keep it going at least on this grow… might explore another system if I move My little operation to a bit larger space…

Co2 I think is really making your plants heathy. They look amazing. Nice plants

Be careful with what you are spraying around your plants. Try not to use any ‘poison’ like Raid and such. The little black flys are gnats most likely and not going to hurt the plant, but it would absorb (like it does with CO2) and vapor can shot up at end and you don’t need that in your system. Neem oil, if really bad infestation, and nematodes for long term controls. Neem can be used at beginning of soil mixing/opening bag, but be judicious in the way that you use it (research or Oaksterdam website has a blog.

Yea, I have been diligent about keeping surfaces dry and emptying the trays below my pots, those gnats like moisture…

The best thing has been to keep the air moving and that’s keeping them away from the plants…

Also, depending on your soil, you shouldn’t have to feed nutrients until the nutrients in your soil are depleted. What kind of soil are you using? Do you have a PPM/Ec meter?

I don’t top until the 5th node. And do you ph your water first?

And yes, Keep the surface dry down to at least your second knuckle and then water. As far as the fungus gnats are concerned, they really won’t do damage to the plant unless they get outta control so best to get rid of them. I use Captn Jacks Dead Bug and you can use that well into flower (safe) you won’t want to use neem once they start flowering.
