New Grower....Old dude

I mainly read here that the CO2 bags are useless unless you have a large grow and a large co2 delivery system.

No meter although it’s sounding like that should be on my short list of things to get!

My soil started as an organic potting soil and I added some perlite…

Depending on the nutrients in the soil, you shouldn’t need to add nutrients until around flower… of course, there are some things that can be added any time… Cal/Mag, Phosphorus, and microbe like Recharge…You shouldn’t need to worry about adding anything until your TDS out from runoff is 800 or below.

Great info! Thanks! So glad I found this site!

Ok, my ph is running in the mid 6’s… same with my water…

I have a couple questions

First: my new seedling seems static… I planted it directly into a 5 gallon planter… I’m wondering if it would have been better to start seedlings in much smaller containers and then transplant once they are big enough? I’m sort of thinking that right now my little plant is spending more time growing roots than reaching for the lights???

Second: so I went in and topped my bigger plant too early after the first topping… I’m guessing that I just have to live with it this way and see what happens? It’s growing but the new shoots are a bit strange, they look more like Romain lettuce than your typical leaves…

I jacked my heat up a bit since this blue dream strain likes it a bit warmer… lost my humidity when I pushed the heat up so I turned my humidifier back on…

hmmmm… those leaves do look odd… do you have a really strong loupe or microscope? You may need to check the underneath of the leaves for little super tiny critters (they are VERY hard to see). Not trying to scare you because it could be nothing. Sometimes mites will cause leaf distortion like that and some of the leaves almost look like they have been munched on. So hard to tell… You could always just give them all a good spray of Capt. Jack’s Dead bug to be sure but make sure to do it just before lights out and make sure there is plenty of air flow to dry off the leaves.

As far as planting seedlings into a big pot, I do it but am very careful how I water them (a lot of people put them in Solo cups first until the roots get established). At first I just use a spray bottle and mist around the stem and about 2 inches out making sure they still get enough water and encourage the roots to spread out. What kind of pots are you using? I like the fabric pots as they allow good airflow even around the edge of the root ball.

My first guess was I had something Munching in my leaves but I looked very close with my loop and I didn’t see Any pests… strange cause the leaves are completely formed around the edges, no open wounds around the edges… I’ll just keep
An eye on them…

I am using a 5 gallon pain, I drilled 2” holes in the sides, there are about a dozen and then I lined the bucket with screen in the inside to keep the soil in, I also drilled holes in the bottom… I was hoping the exposed sides would allow more to the soil and help rooting…

Dunno really, this is my first try and it’s all uphill from here… I gotta get these things moving along, I only have about 3/4 oz of my old stash and then I’m out! I hate the thoughts of paying $300 an oz for weed I don’t even know…:flushed:

I clipped those strange leaves and all appears to be well and fine… new growth is flourishing and reaching for the lights…

So my plant isn’t realizing the rapid growth I read so many other are experiencing… I’m 6 weeks into my grow and am at the slow and steady pace…

I’m guessing that because I started out with 5 gallon planter containers, my plant has been busy building a solid root system… my main stalk is very solid and meaty…

I’m guessing this is gonna be a lengthy grow, I’m gonna keep pounding the light and fertilizer and wait for more growth and shoots before heading into the flower stage…

These feminized seeds advertise 69 to 70 days to flower… I’m betting I will be closer to 90 days until I adjust my light times to flower time…

Next grow I need to be more organized and journal… build My road map Of what’s working and what’s not…

I was Going to try some LST with this plant but the stalks are so thick and short, I don’t see being able to bend them enough to get them to start to grow horizontally…

I didn’t think I would be able to try this but after a little selective pruning, In the name of experimentation, I decided to try some LST on my plant… I had to remove some large fan leaves that were in the way… we will see how this turns out!

You can bend them slowly - a little each time. As long as you don’t try to bend them all at once they’ll be fine. I LST mine well into flower to keep them manageable in my tent.

My main stalk is pretty stiff as is the stalk beyond the first split…above that I was able to do some staking… we will see how it goes!!! Everything is a learning experience for me at this point!!!

Not as pretty as most but I think I may have this going in the right direction…

Hopefully a little later today I can get some string run and then running laterally with my shoots should be much easier…

Damn it! I ran string to get a little better environment for some LST… worked great, I got four tips to bend under just fine… broke the fifth off… oh well, guess it will split again!!!

if the stem splits, you can try taping it with duct tape… just don’t go around the entire stem cuz it will need to 'outgrow the duct tape and not be strangled by it… I’ve had to do it before and that spot where it split becomes the most strong and forms a gnarly bulb there.

It snapped off right at the split like where I would have pruned it had I wanted to top it there…I let it be and didn’t do anything to it…

I left it overnight and the 4 remaining branches I tucked were already reaching for the lights this morning.

I think all is good!

I think I have this going in the right direction, nice meaty stalk and she looks pretty healthy so I’m gonna keep her growing laterally for another month or so.

Question? I hear folks referencing using molasses added to water as a source of magnesium and I suppose potassium as well…

Thoughts, insight? Amount??

Thanks!

Mike

Molasses is basically food for the micro bacteria in your soil. That’s why I love General Organics Cal/Mag because it has molasses in it! Cal/Mag is hard to overdo with cannabis. I use it every single grow. If you want to add magnesium, I suggest Epsom Salts… a little goes a long way. I usually add about 1/8 teaspoon per gallon.

Thanks! I worked an epsoms salt boost into the rotation and a bit of molasses a couple weeks back. Only gave it once each. I flipped to 12/12 last week so I’m watching things closely…

My first grow is one little lone survivor… she vegged for 8 weeks and has been reduced light 12/12 for 3 weeks…

Everything I have read says this blue dream strain takes its time flowering and that seems to run true.

I rigged up a net with strings and grew her out as wide as my space would allow, she appears to be doing good, tons of buds are now in full grow…

Keeping an eye on my ph, watching
My humidity and my nutes are heavier on the p & k … I also trimmed a bunch of the fan leaves and she liked that…

I have about a Month to 6 more weeks depending on how fast she moves along…

I have learned a ton from
This grow and from reading threads on this site. I’m gathering the supplies needed for
My next grow and I should be a bit more
Organized to get at least 4 plants going in the planned new grow area. Then I can use the little grow room (4’x6’) for something else…

Was thinking about trying breeding… I only have femanized seeds so I would Have to Get some new seeds…

She’s looking great :sunglasses:
I think you did a great job with leaf removal not to much or to little and they appear to like it
