I have four 4ft T5 HO 6500k. I have managed to get the temperature stable within 74-77 and the humidity around 40%. My seedlings are starting to sprout their first leaves and I have been reading that I should have my lights alot closer to them. What do you guys recommend, looking at my build, should I place the fans and humidifier above the lights? There is also space below that I have been thinking I can place the humidifier. How close should I have the lights, and does having 4 bulbs on help compensate for the distance? As it is now, the lights are about 20inches from the platform.
You want the humidity around 80% for your seedlings. Your fan should be blowing between the lights and plants to move the hot air around.
For your light querie we’ll ask @dbrn32 if he could help you there…
I think it would have been easier to elevate your seedlings for a few weeks. You will eventually need the clearance.
@StillSmokin Geez should I just get a better humidifer? Have any recommendations on raising the humidity? I have gotten up to 90% accidentally when all the fans and lights were off and I had the ac running, so the temp was around 65 for a bit. But whenever the lights and fans are on I cant seem to break 40%
jesus christ that makes too much sense, thank you!
Maybe get an inkbird humidity controller ( about $60) and turm your humidifier up full blast…
(If you haven’t had a look at the guidelines for this forum then please take the time to)
If you have a dome for your tray and most the inside of it your rh would be plenty high enough that you wouldn’t even have to worry about humidifier right now. If not, you can use clear bottles or cups to make individual domes and mist the inside of them.
I would suggest raising tray up too.
@BobbyDigital @Nicky @yoshi @oldmarine @Bluntsmoke @Bulldognuts ok with this new light powerful I believe i cooked a seedlings. So one Mentos survived. Some checking sites and your charts I think and did turn down the light and got the photo app you all talk about. Got better understanding. Now seedlings dont need all lights on. I can switch between 3-6-9 lights on.The DLI IS NOW26.5 and the Ppfd is535 light is 21 " above pots. All beans in the soil waiting. P.S. I lost my pipe in the house stoned cant find it ,just bought it,because I kept burning my eyebrows!!!
Sorry bud all I know is how many watts I need to light the tent . I don’t use par or light apps. I go by manufacturers recommendations and feel. I think you’re now on point by the sound of it
26 is good.
Seedlings are also picky, they seem to stretch unless the lights close even when the power is cranked.
So keep an eye on them if they start to stretch move lights down or put them on a flipped upside down 5 gallon bucket like I do.
Ideal early growth is about 70-75% humidity at 79f, look at a VPD cannabis chart though if you don’t already have one on hand that’s a must.
Also a good steady breeze is soooo important to keep them strong.
Ican move light up or down no problem. That’s easy. One plant has arrived Mentos girl. She is about a inch high, the others are still in the soil waiting. I ready hope they take this time for this is the second restart in this The light pulls 410 watts from wall. The paper that came with light said 980 umol/m2s I added Photone app I like it better than the PPFD app. So as always it’s a steep learning curve. But I am glad with all you all sharing those charts ,thats what got me thinking my DLI was way too high. My Humdity is Low but I have a Vornado machine set for 60% auto run and it is around 48%RH this morning. Temps are around 74-78 they float ,I am sill trying to get adjusted because this light throws more heat .As for a beeze I have a tower fan on high blowing and a clip on fan blowing across the light to cool it a bit which seems to help dissipate the heat around better. So now we wait. Eat the gummie bears I made mellow bears make your mind wander, forget why you came into a room, thats how I misplaced my pipe.HAHA growing is such fun they said!!
Sounds like your on the right track.
Tomorrow is my one day off and I have a 10mg ice tea in my fridge, I just setup my new 65" OLED LG C1 TV, going to try and find something cool in 4k to watch tonight. I’ll go a little crazy and drink 1/2 of my drink (normally only drink 1/4) and enjoy the experince.
Should be doing an update of my own tomorrow night, stay tuned.
Well update on lost bowl report… I went into the office and lo and behold looked into the bag of Vitamins and at the bottom shiny and new here it sat. how it got in a bag of vitamins I DK but 20 bucks for a pipe .I needed to find it wife said you keep spacing things out around the house we can’t afford you doing this or we will have 5 pipes and 45 lighters and 7 trim scissors and 422 rolls of TP. haha
Well @Nicky The. Seedlings are just sitting there another one popped up but no streching so I upped the light DLI to 50’s because nothing was happening. Now what do you think? @Newt
If they’re big enough for a DLI of 50, I’m all for it.
They responsed well to a higher DLI. One plant doubled in size overnight. And the seedlings are making leaves, i upped the heat to stay 77-80 airflow in tent massive amount 3 fans going. I watered them 3 days with compost tea. Thats when the girls took off. @Newt you run higher DLI then most others so I believe in higher DLI’s mimic the sun.
Nowhere near the sun. That’s the mother of all grow lights.
Just remember it’s all a balancing act. Higher DLI means more growth, which means nutrients and water are consumed faster. It also means the CO2 is also used faster, so anything about a DLI of 60 is likely wasted light unless you have a closed system and can supplement the CO2.
Its about 54 DLI in there right now!
Right about where I am.
