They aren’t necessarily same leds or the same design, so price difference could be expected. Those that actually share same/same don’t seem to be priced much differently.
Hlg 135 would do well in a 2x2. If you like lots of lit, there 100 w quantum boards that are 12’x10" (there about)so you can fit 200 watts in your 2x2. You will never suffer from stretch again. HLG has its 100w lights but they are not dimmable. That would also work. Or get the HLG 1000 rspec and pair it with your 65.
Welcome. Do you have a beverage of choice to accompany a cigar?
Hey. I am running three plants with three 103W (from the wall) blurples. I didn’t know if I was going to enjoy growing so I started with a minimal investment.
I am hooked! I’ll probably upgrade in the future.
Chilled Tech has 10% off this month with code JUNE10
I bought two x3 mini’s last week.
Good luck! ![]()

I’ve been using 2 2’ T5s about 3inch over top until about 4 or 5 inches then into tent. I have a sf4000. Definitely no stretching problems. With flouresent for seedling, stay about 2" over tops. T5s are a little warmer. Im new too but this i think works well for seedling. Now if I could just keep mine healthy

Good luck
a familiar tale. it is a blast
I have the 1x in veg spec for the little guys
That is how I like to do it. PLants love some T5 in the early stages.
That is a common misconception.
Thanks!! Just wanted to grow them or try without putting a 2nd mortgage on the house, have no problem upgrading lights, just put the HLG 65 Up this morning so will see if it helps, placed about 12" above plants. I know it puts off more heat than what I had so will keep an eye on it.
I am kind of partial to 4 Roses small batch, nice smooth with a little punch on finish.
Also looking at Spider Farmer FS 1000 and Mars Hydro TS 1000. Kind of leaning towards the Spider Farmer FS 1000 Dimmable. God so many lights out there!!!
Sorry took so long to reply, wasn’t aware only allowed 9 replies, does that ever change??
Yes there are. And like bourbon, there are some good ones and others that are better left on the shelf.
The HLG 65 is nice for veg. I use a Chilled Growcraft 65w light for seedlings and vegging small plants.
Between the SF and Mars, I believe the SF is the stronger of the two. Better components, more upfront - or should I say less misleading than Mars, and better reviewed. And, a few bucks off now doesn’t hurt either.
You can check out what I have going currently at Let’s Grow Some Purple Kush
Welcome to the community. You have some excellent growers giving you tips here. I would suggest going away from the distilled water. I use tap that’s 7.2 and PH down to either soil or coco levels. I’m growing in both. 6.5 on soil and 5.9-6.0 for my coco. Doing well my friend. Like all said, a decent light will help considerably. Check out Amazon, they have some 1000 watt (100 from the wall) but got me started earlier.look for full spectrum and one with IR
Code DUDE gets u 10% off at hlg also. Sso far in a 2x2 the 135 r spec kick butt. I have it aboit 35 percent light raised to top as high as she goes driver mounted outside tent and it rocks. Hopefully this week sometime or next i will be able to flip the plant i have going in there now. Trying to fill a scrog
I started to wait another couple of days to get my lights but you know how that goes. One has to have everything yesterday… lol
I did get about 250 off two lights so I’m good with that.
Why would you suggest that?
I switched to R/O several years ago (same basically as distilled). I love the fact that one doesn’t need to pH it, and it’s neutral so you can add the nutrients you need and there’s nothing else in there.
Distilled water is great for adding nutes and it does have a good PH range. I should have said using distilled water only like in the early growth/seeding stage because of the missing needed minerals.
Small update, so this is at 3 weeks, just did minor LST 2 days ago, and curious as to if I should trim those larger leafs as they are covering the plant or just leave them as is. It’s actually amazing how fast it seems to grow after the LST, and turn up towards the light. I can be a bit obsessive when I get involved with something, just don’t want to get aggressive and ruin things. Thanks!!
Your LST looks great!
Here is my approach.
First grow I left every fan leaf on until they started turning yellow to support photosynthesis.
Second grow - I still leave the fan leaves on as long as possible only removing those that are yellowing. I am not much of a trimmer and as they get older I have just tucked them out of the way of bud sites. This grow I I trimmed a bit on the lower limbs to get better air flow.
I keep all the trim, let it dry, crush, and add them to the soil for my next grow. That’s just my preference.
I did some LST during both grows - but definitely not a master like some of the other growers.
Best wishes on a healthy and productive grow.
this is a gorilla glue auto under sf4000 in HF soil, 3 gallon bags. I topped it at the 8th node
I like to trim alot during flowering because I believe the shade and fan leaves are using water, nutes and holding nitrogen which the rest of the plant cannibalize for the nitrogen. It works for me
