New grow ebb n flow needs some pointers

Hey guys I just transitioned from a coco coir to this setup. Need a few pointers on how to control algae, when is the best time to replace the res water, little things. I’ve been ushered along by my bestie @imSICKkid. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

@Myfriendis410 is a really good hydro grower as well and can give solid advice on keeping the rez clean and any other hydro stuff

@Bogleg I’ve seen your setup and read a little bit. Nice bro for real :pray:t3: Is there any advice on how to control algae. I know I’m going to deal with it. It’s been popping up on my coco so this is bound to happen. @imSICKkid said He thinks hyrdogaurd would fix it. Is there anything else I could change, or is hyrdogaurd the best option?

I’d put a cover over your flood table. Do you run a chiller? What is rez temp? Hydroguard will help but gotta eliminate light getting to wet nutrients.

Welcome to the forum!

I agree, light on water is going to try growing algae. Fill the table or cover it and you should do a lot better there.

@Myfriendis410 I don’t have a chiller the Rez fluctuates at 64.1- 66.8. Man that sucks haha I love the way this looks. Well what you recommend would panda film be the best?

Just tape some panda film over the top, cut an X for each of your pots, stick 'em in:

I will say this - I don’t think you don’t need to add the cover. IMHO you have enough hydroton that as long as your pots are sitting down into the hydroton and you are not flooding to the top layer of hydroton you might be okay.

Your problem will be between grows. That’s going to be a pain to clean up between grows. With the method I am using it’s just dump the roots, rinse it out, and start back up.

Yup I’m gonna go grab some tonight. Do I have to use pots?

You need to use whatever will hold the plant in place and allow water/roots to do their thing. I have grown in cloth pots in my tray. I have grown with net pots in my tray. And I have grown with the square pots you see above.

I have this I use to wash the hydroton so I was thinking after every grow just pull the pebbles rinse and repeat

With the hydroton in the tray like you have, it might be possible to just put the plants directly in the hydroton with no pot… I think I’ve seen grows like that around the interwebz. I can envision that being okay with bigger plants… with smaller ones I might wonder if one would float away.

So I have solo cups holding up two that I used coco earlier on so the root are coming out of coco into the tray but being held up by the solo cup. That might be the way. Just without coco

Yeah the roots have come out of every pot I’ve thrown at my tray. One gallon cloth pots were the worst.

If you soak the hydroton in a strong peroxide and water solution that ought to nuke the algae. Peroxide is your friend lol.

Any advice? Leaves are curling & changing color.

How is the environment? Temps, humidity?

Do you have run-off numbers for PPM and PH?

How big is the pot? And the plant? Maybe need to move this to it’s own thread.

How do I move to different thread?

Are you asking how to start a new thread?
