Two plants doing the same thing. One is blue dream photo and the other is frosted skywalker auto they both are almost 2 weeks old. They are under two marshydroTs1000 @ 20inches on 18/6. Watering when dry about every few days with 1L of water ph 6.5. In coast of main soil, photo in 10gal pot and auto in 3gal pot. Temps between 72 and 80 at around 50% humidity(ignore the meter). Looks like overwatering to me. but want a second opinion. Thanks
How long has that meter been sitting there? Cloth pot looks dry. Over and under water will droop them. That is 39% at plant. If i drop 1 in a pot it will hit 50+ right away. Finger in 2 knuckle. Cloth so lift and feel bottom. Dry and light i water. Damp on bottom i wait. No science involved. I love fabric. Feel around it also. If dry and need a good water she will show it in minutes.
How are you testing their dryness if your just sticking you finger in that’s unreliable, pick up your pots if they’re feather light you’re not watering enough at that size it should be about 2 liters every 4-5 days
Welcome to the community.
The plant is light colored and drooping but the soil looks dry and you described a dry/wet cycle so overwatering doesn’t seem to be an issue.
Ensure the pot is light before watering. Water is heavy (~8lb a gallon) so think about how much a gallon of milk weights …don’t water until it feels like a near empty gallon of milk.
What is the light intensity? IOW, do you have a PPFD or DLI reading? I see X light at Y inches but if it’s cranked up to 100% you might have a bit of light stress.
The meter is broke. I was trying the knuckle trick and that’s not working for me. I’m not to sure on the ppfd except for what the packaging says. I’ll give some more water this evening and see what happens. Thanks
If it is bone dry will not hurt a bit to saturate that pot. Fabric is so wonderfull. Breathes. Dont believe me? Take a hit of acid and watch it…roflmao. I swear i saw them inhale and exhale. Along with a few other things.
If you have a cell phone, the Photone app works pretty well and can get you in the ballpark on light intensity.
Plants create food using light: photosynthesis. High light intensity increases photosynthesis. Increased photosynthesis increases growth which increases all other requirements including nutrient requirements.
Stick to the basics — the plant will take care of the rest. Control the balance of light, air recirculation (to ensure CO2 is available), temp, humidity, and hydration to promote healthy growth …and provide nutrients at a level to sustain the process.
Echoing the opinion that you should really just fully saturate the pot with water - slow watering til all the sides and bottom of the cloth are wet. Probably a good 3 gal for the big one, a solid 1-2gal for the little one, at least. It’ll add a ton of weight to the pot and your plants will thank you. The 10gal fabric probably won’t need water for 5-7 days and the 3gal can go 2-5 days depending on humidity etc in the tent.
Your plants are mature enough and the fabric will dry out on the top and sides so unless your soil is unusually dense (I.e. no perlite and some clay) then it’s a low risk approach.
Looking like it’s around 600-700, using a app
IMO that’s a bit high for the growth phase:
Given the light intensity, all other requirements will increase to include nutrients. If you could dim the light slightly the current levels of hydration, nutrients, air recirculating, temp, humidity, etc may fall into line.
Later, as the plant continues to grow, you will continue to increase light, nutrients, hydration, adjust temp and humidity, etc. so the plant thrives.
@Storm That’s the freaking funniest thing I’ve seen or heard all day long.
Kudos to you!!
