they are at 32 inches above the canopy now. I think they should be lower for more light to the plants but I am wanting them to stretch up so I have it higher. You are right about the harm, I dont think they will be hurt by it. They are photos. All it is doing is making it last longer than it would normally probably. But it is okay. This month I should see a lot of growth.
I’m sure you will, your doing great with them. You go have fun the girls will be fine til you get home ![]()
Well I am back from my trip to Maine. I had a great trip. I visited some family and friends all in all very enjoyable.
Well anyway the weekend watering has still lasted. The plants didn’t sprout flowers but they certainly didn’t die. They are showing very nice signs of growth.
This is Durban Poison Deb. I think she looks pretty healthy.
This is Meg the Maui Wowie.
She is a week younger but I am very pleased so far.
Welcome home! Girls are looking fab!
Great thing about soil! All depending on plant to pot size ratio, you can water to the soil saturation point and have the plant go a couple of days without water!
Exactly. I don’t mind the slow growth thus far. The roots are still in moist to wet soil at the very bottom of the pots. They probably will not be watered until Saturday. Last Saturday they got a nice drink of 6.0 PH water. The run off was at 5.5 but I think that a couple of more full waterings with proper PH water will do the plants good. I am not going to try to flush the soil to raise the PH. I suspect that my above former PH meter indicated I needed more PH Down. The needle moved only after a lot of PH Down was added. Something a new meter resolved for me.
I was watering with too low of a PH. Now I am on to the right path. The plants grew a full inch in two days. There are some slightly yellow lines on a couple of leaves on the Durban. The Maui is still solid green.
Not much to report except that the girls seem happy. They are only a month old and a little shorter than I would expect but I really cannot complain. I knew nothing about this plant except that I enjoy the high I get from it. I’m not a heavy smoker in fact I only recently began again after many years of not being able to smoke because of work. Now that I am retired and live in a legal recreation state of Massachusetts I get to explore this. The two plants alone could probably provide about 6 months or more of bud to use. If the Maui is as good as I remember it when I was a kid I am in for even more fun. I really do appreciate learning from all of you here.
The girls do look great! What is that standing up in your back right hand corner of the tent? Almost looks like a lava lamp of some sort ![]()
it is a Galileo thermometer.
Man that is cool
thank you! I love the style ![]()
@Oldsoldier1976 your plants look great. Keep up the good work. I’m in a similar situation. I couldn’t smoke for years because of testing and only in the last 10 years have I been able to smoke. Up until 2 years ago, I’d never even seen a cannabis plant growing let alone attempt it myself. I grow because I hate the hunt for weed. Sketchy people with unknown genetics just turns me off. As much as I love to smoke, I think I enjoy gifting bud to my friends just as much. I love sharing my good fortune.
Thanks I am just hoping for a decent yield. I haven’t done this before and it is kind of intimidating at first. I think I might put a couple of seeds outside this year as well. If I do it will be the Durban Poison. I think I might like to do the Maui again indoors and stretch out veg longer to get a full canopy in my 4x4 tent.
I know the feeling. Once you get your first grow under your belt, you can sit back on a nice stash and take your time with the next one. Growing weed is a lot less stressful when you’re not out.
This is sooooo true! My first grow was so stressful because I was still having to buy it along the way.
That is so true. I am thankful I live in legal recreation territory and have stores to buy at. I went to Maine this weekend and was saddened to see that they have not opened any recreational stores yet though they have passed that law. They have just been dragging their feet. I thought we took a long time. At least our state has finally opened up stores.
What the stores have done for me is open my eyes up to new experiences. For one I never thought of vaping pot but here I am about to turn some shatter (rosin pressed from buds) into vaping fluid. The other week I baked a cannabis infused banana bread. I made it using an 1/8 from the store. It came out fairly potent as far as I can tell. But all of this experience is new to me.
So I actually welcome the stress of this growing weed. Seeing all the gorgeous plants that a lot of the members here have created stresses my envy. I am quite impatient at waiting.
I did a little LST hoping to pull up a branch from the lower stem. I have been pushing the main stem towards one side and it has opened up a nice array of branches that seem to have what I would view as places for flowers. Since I have never actually seen this grow it is just an assumption.
Anyway I am hoping that I am pointing at the end of a branch and a branch that I hope will contain a bud. The branch was just fully covered by the main stalk that I have bent over.
I think these girls are happy. Little concerned about the Maui but she isn’t showing outward signs of any stress. It is a week younger then its companion.
They’re looking great to me ![]()
A couple of days from the last pictures and the girls seem happy still. In fact they both were watered yesterday. The Maui got a bit of more attention in that I super watered it. This is what I mean. I used a 2 gallon watering can filled and PH’d down to 6 and then again after testing the run-off water I collected in a bin below the pot and finding that the PH was 5.21. I don’t know what the TDS meter says because it stopped working and I don’t know why. I wonder if it is just a dead battery. Anyway I was just worrying about PH so I ran another 2 gallons through the Maui. The final run-off ended up to be 5.97. I probably should have done that for the Durban but it seems to be happier and growing out her branches. The Maui was keeping everything in tight.
Here are the pictures from this morning.
They really do look good. They both had some stretching growth from yesterday. I took the liberty today since they seem healthy and I am wanting them to grow branches to host buds. I dropped it to 18 inches above the canopy approximately.
Today I am going to design a better base and drain system for future use. I plan on using paper for a bit to see what might work better. I liked the designs I have seen here and I think I can do something very similar and maybe better. We will see.
The girls are looking wonderful ![]()
