11 weeks- 5 days (82 days) since I first saw pistils. It’s finally time to harvest! Was a little hard to find any amber trichomes even just a few days ago but now they are much more prevalent. I am looking for more of a happy happy joy joy buzz so I don’t want to wait much longer.
I’ll do so tomorrow while watching the weather here in the great north turn finally act more like winter. 100% chance of some light snow, temps around freezing and strong northwest winds. Can’t think of anything better then baking some fresh oat bread and trimming my first harvest. House should really smell great!
Started harvesting today. Took down about half and placed the buds into a HerbsNOW Herb dryer I purchased that I wanted to try to see how well it works.
I read a review someone had at one of the cannabis sites where the reviewer performed a very comprehensive comparison between drying in the machine and air drying. Sent samples to a lab for analysis after drying was finished and there was very little difference in THC or terpene content between the two methods. Thought I would give it a whirl. I’ll take down the other half tomorrow and dry that by hanging the branches in my tent.
Took some pictures before starting. I think I did pretty well for my first ever grow! Buds aren’t as big or as dense as a lot of what you see here in the forum. But they are extremely fragrant and very sticky.
Well I’ve crossed the finish line! Harvested about 7 ounces from my first grow. All of which was dried and except for one half ounce that was turned into cannabutter has been placed into Grove Bags for curing. Did also keep a small amount for consumption while waiting for the rest to cure.
Don’t need a lot since I’m kind of a light weight, doesn’t take much for me to get a buzz on. It’s been a long time since I last got lit. Back in the 80’s actually. Weed today sure is a lot more potent then it was back then! Graduated from college, got a real job and found I couldn’t party and be worth a damn at work the next day so I gave it up. Now I’m retired and like to grow stuff so when Minnesota legalized it I decided to dive in. Helps me with sleep and an anxious personality that I’m cursed with.
Found that a 1/4 teaspoon of the butter is enough for me to feel a decent buzz and a half teaspoon really locks me to the couch. For my next grow I’m going to try a strain of White Widow that is 5% THC and 5% CBD. Looking for a lighter buzz and more of the medicinal benefits of the CBD. This Granddaddy Purple has very little CBD and maybe a higher concentration of THC then I am looking for.
To prepare the butter I used the Ecru for the decarboxylation process. I felt it would give me better control over the process. I used the Magic Butter Machine for the infusion into the butter. Pleased with both machines.
Well anyhow here are some pictures of the end results. I plan on starting the White Widow grow on Ground Hog day. I’ll post my progress when that gets started either here or in a separate post.
