Thanks!

Yes it is a trio so you mix all of them together in one watering. And he said he would add cal mag to that mix as well.
Advanced nutes you have to first put in the micro, mix it, then the grow, mix it, then the bloom, and mix that in order.
Hello everyone. I was going to try and update my grow once a week. Sorry I missed last weeks update. Life tends to upend the best intentions. I am not only embarking on my first weed grow but I also have been growing orchids for nearly 30 years. I have in the neighborhood of 200 and they were getting a little jealous of my Granddaddy Purple lady!
Today marks day 78 of my grow and as best as I can tell it is day 22 of flowering. Here are the latest pics. It finally stopped stretching a couple of weeks ago and settled in at 45"
Now for the glamor shot!
The plant was really crowded in the original 2x2 tent so I purchased a 3x3 and moved it. I’ll use the 2x2 for drying after harvest and for a new plant later on.
What is happening? Over the course of the last few days nearly all of the fan leaves have started turning yellow. The sugar leaves are all green and the buds continue to fill in. All the pistils are still white with a small percentage starting to show brown tips. Also all the trichomes that I have looked at are still clear.
I did some research and came across the term ‘fading’. If I understand the term correctly it is common for this to happen as the plant starts to head into bud ripening and the plant starts cannibilizing the fan leaves.
Did I do something wrong or is my plant starting to enter the end of it’s flowering cycle? My plant started showing pistils 42 days ago or about 6 weeks. Seems early to be going into the final stages of flowering.
I should also mention that due to the heating season starting here in Minnesota the temp and humidity in the house has dropped due to having to turn on the furnace. Up until a couple of weeks ago the temps in the tent were around 76-78 and the humdity was generally around 55-60%. Now it hovers around 72 and 44%. I did have to put a small humdifier in the tent to get to 42-44% due to the dry air in the house. It’s possible that change pushed it to the end?
Yesterday I also noticed these and freaked out! Thought they were male flowers and my plant had gone hermie until I did some more research and realized since they have pistils that they were female flowers. They are popping up down lower on the plant where I did some fan thinning.
Should I do anything with the yellowing leaves or is it just part of the process?
Brother yuhhh did amazing. Nah 6 weeks in that plant is starting to get rid of those fan leaves and it’s starting to put all its energy into making buds. The yellowing is perfectly normal. These are the droids your looking for.
Your temps look good anything in 70s is fine flowering your humidity the only reason you want low humidity is not necessarily because the plant won’t like it it’s because of bud rot and mold thrive in the higher humidity so we keep our humidity low in flowering.
Your doing awesome and your going to be smoking some fire soon.
I have 2 big oscillating fans one for canopy one for underneath. And 4 clip fans all to help prevent bud rot and mold.
Edit. Honestly I would prolly take that humidifier out. 40 percent is fine tho 45 percent is where the experts say to be but most of us when our plants are that big they increase the humidity naturally. Your plants look happy. It’d be your call
Also sorry. If you seen pistils 42 days ago or 6 weeks ago your prolly more like 7 weeks in
Whew!! So how much longer do you think before I’ll be harvesting? Another month or so? By the way this is an autoflower Granddaddy Purple if that helps.
Thanks!
The flowering time won’t change with auto or photo. I think gdp is 8 to 10 weeks flowering time average. This is something you shouldn’t assume you should really get a cheap scope that goes up to 60x or 100x on Amazon for like 20 bucks and be checking your trichomes.
If I had to guess you got 2 or 3 weeks left your on the downhill but again get something to check your trichomes. Even a jewelers loop is better than nothing
I’m running gdp right now too
I did get a scope from Amazon after reading about them on the forum. It’s what I took the earlier pictures of the trichomes that are earlier in the post. Dang thing is a real joy trying to get something in focus for a good picture!
Thanks!
Im gonna guess 8 weeks.
Yeah he could be. That’s why I always check trichomes. You never know.
Question. Do I need to be concerned about the fan leaves that turned yellow sucking nutrients away from the buds? Should I trim then off?
I don’t unless the fan leaf is 80 percent yellow or blocking some colas and tucking don’t really work. Otherwise I say let it naturally fall when your like a week away yeah sure go ahead helps pruning anyways.
OK, 7 weeks into flowering. Do I need to be worried about the fact that the majority of my fan leaves have turned yellow with some starting to dry up? Nothing falling off, just that the only green leaves are the sugar leaves surrounding the buds. Also the buds are not gaining much size. Just kind of filling in up and down.
Anyhow here are some bud close ups. All trichomes are still clear. Figure at least three to four weeks to harvest.
My Afgahn grown out doors was slow, but man o mister its the ticket just awaiting a few more bags to show and its a hash time. wife’s bud stash is takin care of, rest is mine for play.
8 weeks since I first noticed pistils. I’m seeing a lot more browning of pistils. Looks like all trichomes are still clear. Certainly no amber. Not sure I would know clear from cloudy. I’m thinking two more weeks? What does everyone think?
Thanks for any input offered!
IMHO they are starting to cloud up, but I am legaly blind heheh jokin
Thanks @Bentstick for your observation. I kind of thought that there might be some cloudiness there but wasn’t sure. As soon as I see some amber it’ll be TIMBERRRRR!!!
The last of the 11 I grew out doors fell a month ago, getting the tending withdrawls soooo had a tent delivered 2 days ago, won’t be doing much but gathering needs until after Christmas, hunting season, Turkey Day, Company Xmas party here, and work seems to be taking my time until the New Year
I see cloudy trichs too. I’m with @Bentstick probably 2 maybe 3 weeks. Just keep a close eye on it. Your also getting into the just personal preference.
Thanks for the input. Getting pretty excited for the next step for my first grow! First amber sighting and chop, chop, chop!
