Day 40, I think that’s right. Planted seed on December 5th.
I did a bit of training this morning. Trimmed about 15 fan leaves. I think that’s the last time I’ll take any leaves for a week or so. The little branch tied way down in front of the picture is the only one that hasn’t pointed right back up after tying them out about horizontal.
Day 42. I gave her straight RO water with molasses yesterday (a day earlier than planned). She looked like she wanted water on Thursday night so I stuck my finger in the soil and it was pretty dry. Pot felt really light on Friday morning, so I watered her a day early.
Anyhow this morning I trimmed about 10 fan leaves opening up more lower bud sites to light. She usually looks pretty scraggly after I train her but she recovered quickly for this afternoon’s glamour shot:
It’s sunny and 70’s here in Arizona. I think I’m going to take her out to the backyard tomorrow so she can sit in the sun for an hour around noon. Little real sunshine should make her happy.
This morning I had her outside for about 30 minutes doing a little lower-canopy trimming. I expect her to take off once she figures out I’m not tying her down anymore.
Today is day 46 woot! Where has the month and a half gone?
I took her outside today around 10:30am and didn’t take her in until 2pm. She seems to really like the sunlight. Looks to me like she’s really starting to stretch:
Another really great thing about taking her outside is I can work on the tent without having to hurry. I moved my second fan (the black one) off the floor and hung it from the side pole to move air around dirt level. I’ll probably adjust this one as the plant gets taller to keep the air around the buds moving.
She had a bit of a stretchy growth spurt this afternoon. So far the biggest looking flower on the whole plant is still on the main stalk (the flower that’s on the left side of the plant, close to the fan at 9oclock. . I’ve tugged and whacked that main stem so much but she still fights back showing what she can do.
Nice sunny and warm day here in Arizona, so I took her outside today to do a little minor defoliation. Took about 10-12 fan leaves that were blocking lower bud sites.
We had a bit of an issue with droopy leaves on Friday. It was totally my fault. Since she started flowering the pot has been getting dry quicker. A little under a week ago, I switched from watering every 3 days and the last two waterings (Tuesday and Thursday) were only 2 days apart. She seemed OK and was perking up like crazy every time I took her outside, so I just figured from the full sunlight she was drinking more water.
Then right after I watered her on Friday night (12 hours earlier than usual) her leaves really started drooping. Oh shit I drowned my plant and now I have to turn out the lights a couple hours later. I was really sweating it. Left all the fans on all night Friday. Saturday morning she looked a little better. After about 4 hours of checking on her, she started improving steadily. WHEW! I was so relived.
As a result, I switched back to 3 day waterings and I’m really going to be careful about not watering until she gets pretty dry.
Took all the ties off this morning. Sorry about the cord for the light blocking the picture. I had to raise the light to 15" today (from 12"). A couple of the leaves are showing what look to be signs of too much light (at least that’s what they look like to me).
Forgot to add: Saturday morning I took a Q tip and pushed about 10 holes in the soil with it all around the plant. The idea was to allow more air to dry out the top of the pot quicker. Not sure if it helped much, but she did look a lot better as Saturday morning went on.
Past couple of waterings had been with R.O. water + molasses and Epsom salt, because a couple weeks ago I tested my runoff with my TDS meter and it was in the 6000 range. I thought she had plenty of plant food in the pot. The past couple days I’d been noticing more purple splotches coming up on the leaves. Most of the discoloration was on the higher colas, so I thought at first it was light burn. Starting on around Saturday? I think?? I started noticing more and more leaves getting a purple tinge to them…Phosphorous deficiency? It was looking like the 18-20 days she’s spent in flower getting plain water took down all those nutrients from the soil. So I top dressed with 4 tablespoons of Dr. Earth Bud/bloom fert (3-9-4). Used a teaspoon of Roots organic “terp tea” and molasses + epsom and I made the tea with filtered city water, so I pH’ed with a teaspoon of Alaska "Morbloom (0-10-10) and watered her REAL slow, trying to get her to take in as much as she could with the watering.
She looked a lot better this morning after the P boost/feeding, so I took a few more backyard glamour shots.
OK I think were on day 61. Yesterday we finished 3rd week of flower and are now in week 4 of flower! Yowza!
I think the phosphorus issue is OK for now. This morning, I gave her a tea that I brewed for the last two days it had 2 teaspoons of seabird guano, 1/2 tsp of epsom salt, couple tablespoons of earthworm castings and molasses. It didn’t foam much but I think the seabird guano was acidic because my filtered tap water normally runs 7.7-7.8ish pH and when I tested the pH this morning before feeding it was right at around 7.0. IMO that’s Kinda nice to not have to add morbloom to adjust tap water pH. She drank a whole gallon of water this morning and gave very little runoff. Maybe 4oz? I took her outside this morning around 10am because it’s warm and sunny here. Just took this picture after being in the sun for almost 4 hours. She sure seems to love basking in the sunlight.
No more problems with more leaves turning purple since I started feeding her phosphorus. I think next watering on Sunday I’ll just give her plain R.O. water since i’ve fed her two waterings in a row now. I did give her 4 tablespoons of dry amendment Dr. Earth bloom buster about a week ago. That’s probably not all used up yet.
I took this and didn’t reduce the size to show the amount of glitter that’s all over this plant. There’s trich’s EVERYWHERE. (nature’s sunscreen)?
Day 64 so I tried something a little different today.
I did a little bit of canopy maintenance. Not much maybe took 6-8 fan leaves that were blocking lower bud sites. The main thing I did that was different was I retied some of the smaller branches that were crowding the area towards the middle of the canopy. Tied them down to the outside of the pot where they could get their own light without having to fight for it.
With the different view, you can see they have more of a chance to get light where they are now vs where they were before I moved them. It will be interesting to see if they point back up towards the light or if they just do their thing at the angle I tied them to.
So far so good. Haven’t had any major issues lately. We’re midway through week 5 of flower. I hope she goes the full 8 because the buds have been getting a lot bigger lately. I hope she takes her time to finish!
