This is my second grow in a tent using a Vipar 1500 grow light that puts out 150 watts. the plants grow well but aren’t real bushy. Nice flowers but not too big. I harvest when about 80% of the hairs are red, hang the plant up to dry. But there is no smell. Nothing. The flowers are sticky and I can smell them on my fingers. Not enough light power? I bought a second identical light and I will use both of them to grow the next round. I use the fertilizers from ILGM. Gets me high but not super strong, which is OK with me. Any ideas?
Welcome aboard! Let the plant ripen a little longer to get a little more stoney feeling. And smell usually comes back with a proper dry/trim/cure. Hang for 10-14 days as close to 60/60 temp/rh. Trim all fan and other leaf material. I’ve found the moee leaf left on, the more they have a haylike and grainy/grassy smell. I use Grove Bags to cure, and after 2-3 weeks, the smell goes from fresh harvest grassy, to sweet dankness depending on strain.
Some strains are designed to be low odor for discretion/stealth while growing feel like this is becoming more common the bud will still get you stoned but it just doesn’t seem to have that same aroma it used too
Hey, thanks for your response. In the interest of accuracy I harvested my first grow at 80/20 % red hair to white. The second grow I let them go farther and waited until they were all red. Maybe I don’t let them dry long enough. I’ll try that next time. Also, never heard of a Grove bag. Thanks for the tip, I’ll research that. I appreciate your input.
I did not know that. Thanks for that!
Excellent guide! Thanks for sending.
No problem! The white/red hairs don’t always necessarily give you an accurate measure, but they have mostly darkened and receded, start checking. I shoot for about 20% amber trichomes. Oh, and check the buds, not the sugar leaves.
Thanks for the tip!
Yea those aren’t for me lol! After 5 min with my plants I want my clothes to stink like a skunk, drinking a coffe, gassing up his car, while eating a bowl of berries lol!
In all seriousness tho, IMHO terpenes play an important part of the cannabis experience and work in conjunction with cannabinoids to provide a more wholistic and immersive experience.
LOL! I agree, I WANT that skunk in my place!
I think adding that second light will help tremendously.
I like to wait until all the hairs have seemed to change color and start to shrivel and recede back before looking more closely with my jewelers loupe like @Borderryan22 mentioned.
You don’t harvest based on the pistils (hairs). You need a jewelers loupe to assess the trichromes maturity. Its all based on resin development which cannot be seen with the naked eye
Thats about it, right there, just a few amber tricohomes with cloudy ones being rhe general make up. Correct me if i am wrong. I like the head buzz. I like sitting there and spacing out on my cup of coffee…lol
