Noticed the rock wool holding my seedling is moldy what can I do? Can I remove it from the rock wool and use a neoprene collar or? Please help @Graysin @BWoods @dbrn32

Also in the future what should I use to put my seeds in when planting in the hydroton, I like to plant in final pot.

Sorry I can’t help! I’ve only grown in soil so far, had some green moss/mold buildup on a seedling once with humidity dome but I just let it dry out and it cleared up. I don’t know if your solution will be that easy though, someone with more experience will be here to help shortly!

Is it mold or algae? If it’s algae it grew because rock wool is remaining wet and light is hitting it. Simply removing algae and covering with hydroton would keep it from growing.

I’ve never seen mold on my rockwool. Got a pic of it before it molded?

@Nitronick420 looks more like beneficial myco, i wouldnt worry, just supplement with hydroguard and all will be ok

Yeah absolutely! I can only imagine what having some humidity must be like 
@dbrn32 im at work now I’ll take a pic of it later. The dark part is what the rock wool looks like wet, the white fuzzy stuff is the growth. @nodurxshn what is myco and how is it beneficial? Anyone from New England? Mass, New Hampshire area?

I use Hydroguard to protect the root zone. Also you could use some diluted hydrogen peroxide as a spray topical for quick fix. I prefer the beneficial microbes for the holistic approach.

That’s not real rockwool - “biodegradable rockwool alternative.” That explains the problem.
I’m afraid I don’t have any guidance, other than don’t use that again in the future, it looks like it’s going to be problematic for you.

I concur with @Graysin on using this product for hydroponics. Seems like a viable option for soil but not for an inert environment for hydroponics.

as far as removing the small plant from this “rock wool” and putting it into a grow sponge or neoprene collar is that doable?

You could try it. I’d probably try to soak the whole thing in water and break it apart as much and as gently as possible - the roots are likely pretty well established in there by now.
