I can see both sides of it. I also dont need or want 10 seeds of any given strain. so the bogo deals dont appeal to me nearly as much as the mix pack. I underatand that in order to make it profitable while not seeming overly priced is to sell in higher volumes. its a common practice. 90% of the time half my onions that I buy in bag go bad and to waste. i understand the marketi g side of it all also. when it comes to seed id actually be willing to pay more for seed if i can buy what I want at an amount that seem logical for me. given their current pricing id be willing to pay 110-120 for a build your own 5 pack. But even then it might not be profitable enough to account for packaging 5 seperate seeds. would be a nice option though
Over the years I can think of at least 3 separate single seed companies. They have all gone out of business. When I looked it was the same price for a single seed as a pack when compared to the other pack vendors. The “single seed source” was connected to Herbies and it still went out of business. I don’t know why, and am a bit curious myself. I just know those companies have crashed and burned.
I too would like to see a mix your own for a discount. But I understand the logistics are tricky.
First there are currently 149 unique strains. 95 photo and 54 autos. You cant make up mix packs in advance to cover every possible combo as that is over 3 million combinations, 6 million if you do 3s and 5s. So you have to have people who can pull each one without mistake. Or invest in robotic machinery to pull accurately. Not an easy thing to do for a cannabis business who are not on the top of banking lenders list of preferred customers. So you are left with manual labor. I would expect an explosion of sales if discounted mix packs of single and 3 seed choices were added. That also means the seed breeders now have to pack singles as well as 3s 5s and 20s.
You cant have this to do it in house…There would be endless mix-ups of strains
All cannabis seeds look the same so you cant package in the same areas unless you work under lab protocols. I ordered pepper seeds from Rare Seeds in Missouri and got a different breed of pepper because they package different seeds in the same area. Anyway, the point is you have to inventory packs of 1, 3, 5 and 20 of each strain. Now the shrinkage from old unsold seeds goes up. Not every strain will sell singles as well.
All these and more issues arise from trying to fulfill with more choices.
I know other places do it, but ILGM has a great rep because they don’t have the issues the others do. They are consistently rated a top 5 if not #1 by sites that review sellers. Would be hard to risk that reputation by complicating your fulfillment center.
I was just about to ask this question? I’m sure it’s the age old one.
