Metaldawg's first indoor grow

I’m not sure if this is ok to post my journey through my first indoor grow but I just didn’t care for the layout of the journals on here. If it’s ok, I’ll post pics of the grow including the things that I messed up and hopefully learned from.

Here’s my start in 20oz cups using Fox Farms Happy Frog under some cheap Wallyworld lights (waiting for my refurbished HLG 650R to get here)

After letting the plants get about 5 inches or so, I transplanted them into 5 gallon buckets with the bottom filled with FF Ocean Forest and the upper with Happy Frog. Once I got them into the buckets I didn’t give them any nutes, just pH water. I had the light about 2.5ft above them and the light was set at 30%

The left side 2 are Granddaddy Purples, the 2 middle one’s are Super Lemon Haze and the right side are Girl Scout Cookies Extreme. Pic taken on July 9th
This is the beginning of my mistakes…as you’ll see as I progress.

I topped once before transplanting and these pics are from July 30th.

As normal, my pic loading ability works about half the time… First pic seedlings

And the other pic that I tried to load showing the GDP better.

Here’s where my mistakes start…not having everything I needed to train the plants. No net and nothing to tie down and shape the plants. August 6th

I should have been spreading the branches but waiting on my deliveries of nets and wire. Still no nutes yet, they seem to be doing well.

As you can notice the GDP is growing faster than others and I finally get the things I needed but then I installed the net higher than it needed to be. But I got them started training. August 18th

It’s around this time I broke off one of the top 2 branches of one of the Girl Scout Cookies by pulling it down too far ( I waited a little too long to bend it as much as I did, the branch had gotten too hard). You’ll see what the difference in the plants is later on in pics.

On August 22nd I noticed that the back GDP was wilting and asked on this forum what might be the problem. I had been watering about a half gallon very slowly every 4 days. Turns out I wasn’t watering enough so I went to a gallon every 4 days. I ended up watering the GDP a day or so quicker than the others. Still not feeding them anything yet.

Looks good. Welcome to the game. I’ll follow along

Most of us just use the “show your grow” section to post our journals in this forum, instead of that “journal” thing the seed store has. We can reclassify this thread for that category if you wanted. Our “journals” are just like yours, just a thread that we add to as we go.

Great looking garden btw!

I don’t mind if you move this to another section, I just took one look at the journal on here and thought nope, not trying that.

Agree the most of us prefer the forum over the Journal area. I check it out sometimes, but there are too many abandoned journals and its not very helpful.

I just tacked on “grow journal” to your “indoor grow” tag… Now you’re one of us…
One of us…

Old movie reference, sorry

Later in August I gave my babies their first nutes besides what was in the FF by giving them some bat guano and a little taste of cal-mag. I also turned up the lights to 50 %. I flipped to flower on August 24th.

These are taken September 3rd.
I rearranged the middle plants to the far right side of the closet and the ones on the right got put in the middle. I called myself trying to stair step the plants since the Girl Scout Cookies Extreme were taller than the Super Lemon Haze (turns out it didn’t make any difference…they ended up pretty much the same). I’m pointing out in the last pic where I messed up and broke off one of the main branches. The GDP are still a good bit thirstier than the others and will remain that way throughout the grow.

September 5th I find this on the front GSCE and panic a bit. I decided to try a half feeding of bat guano and a half feeding of micro nutes and see what happens, I didn’t want to overdo it. These leaves never recovered but the new growth was perfect.

September 11th they are starting to load up on the nugs and I bump the lights up to 75%. I’ve increased the watering to a gallon every 3 days for the GDP and every 4 days for the GSCE and SLH. And before I forget, my pH for the whole grow was from 6.2 to a high of 6.8 which I think wasn’t too terrible considering I’ve never had to raise or lower pH and never tested it when growing outdoors…I just had the soil tested in the spring and added what was needed.

My GDP’s keep stretching on me, another rookie mistake… letting them veg too long. An interesting side bar here… outdoors the GDP’S were the shortest and the GSCE was twice the size.

The next feeding I gave them a half dose of Morbloom and a half dose of bone meal and a little more micro nutes. Watered twice and then I really messed up. Those @#$&() GDP’S started looking a little weak so I gave them a heavier dose of nutes…wrong answer Dawg.

I burned them badly but the rest were ok.

This is the GSCE that I broke the branch off of… notice the area never really filled in and that the GDP are overwhelming the GSCE

This is the SLH

Coming down to the home stretch and my bud porn.

GSCE

SLH

GDP

Slightly before this time I didn’t realize that I had a little problem in the grow room. One of my plants decided to hermie, not a lot. Just a pod or so and I was looking for a clump of sacks and I ended up getting what I’ve been told is a “nanner”…a rouge sack that can pop up in a bud and fertilize your garden. If I had to guess which plant did this, I’d have to say it was the GDP. The reason I say this is I stressed them by over feeding and they have nute burn.

GSCE is looking very nice

The GDP aren’t doing as well as the others, entirely my fault.

The SLH… what can I say. The smell from these are heavenly.
I’m 8 weeks from the flip to 12/12 and they are getting ready. I still have a bit too many clear trichomes but it won’t be much longer.

October 23rd
Chop day. I finally got enough amber trichomes on the upper colas and decided to cut the upper buds and let the lower one’s mature a little bit more.

The GSCE in the middle

SLH …I can’t say enough about how they smell.

The poor overfed GDP…bad nute burn. Hopefully I won’t do that again.

The next pics are after the first cutting.

I want to kick myself looking at the GDP, I messed up but live and hopefully learn.

My scattered brain just remembered that I turned the lights up to around 75 to 80% within a week of flipping to 12/12 . I tried turning up the lights to 100% a week or two later but it was too close to the GDP and burning them even more. So I left it at the lower setting. I can’t say enough about how well the HLG 650R did …I’m impressed with what I ended up with.

I still have to harvest the lower parts which I plan on doing tomorrow and the rest of the buds are probably going in Grove bags in a few days. I’m not sure if the plants are filling out more but I don’t see nearly as many white hairs as before and most of the trichomes are cloudy with some amber.
