I new to this but I found a great photo of a fellow members method of Low Stress Training and now I cannot find it again. Help! It was very informative.
I’m very intrigued by someone with a frog
mushroom emoji profile pic post a great simple diagram of how to do LST on your autoflowers with string? Can we have a thread of peoples LST methods? What exactly happens inside the plant structure that gives it bigger flowers? Thanks everyone, learning a ton.
LST won’t accomplish this Growmie, topping and removing lower nodes can increase bud size and structure. LST will help with spreading the plant out to get better or equal lighting at the bud sites. Some strains are big producers and some are not ![]()
I wouldn’t worry about LST unless necessary to improve airflow in a clogged canopy. You will find trimming necessary by the time the plant gets to flowering. Trim as necessary to maintain good airflow within the plant’s canopy.
Could be Chitty @ChittyChittyBangin
If you use the search bar at the top and type in LST, you will get a ton of hits with this new thread being one of them. If Chitty isn’t the person you are looking for, maybe you might find them in one of those threads listed.
here are some examples of training
I only grow photos and alot of folks do not do alot to autos due to the time for recovery and since they will flower when they feel like it, other than a top, most just let them do their thing.
It’s ok to pull autos down and spread them out, but topping and some training techniques can cause recovery needs and in an auto this would be detrimental like you said. I used to top autos to some success but most of the time it just stunts the plant or worse causes herming… Photos are anything goes. I will fim 3 or 4 tops maybe more, depends on how the plant preforms.
With photos I fim at the 3rd or 4th to keep the plant short then fimmed those tops to keep spreading the plant out to make more tops.
Then I just pull the tops out to bring up the inner nodes and turn them into tops themselves. Scrog without the net. Tying them down just like your last pic there.

I LST my photos and am going to with these autos i have now because their growth is explosive ! LSTing like mentioned above opens up the canopy exposing more light to the lower plant. The lower nodes then grow out and you can lay them down. The only downside to autos is that you have to start as soon as the 4th node appears because they can start flowering whenever theyve had enough vegging.. ![]()
the way i train my photos can take few months (im organic) to train the plant to the size i want outwards then flip to flower to allow to grow upwards real good during the stretch.
Thank you guys so much I think I’m getting it now.
I’m a big supporter of LST. No matter how great your light is it cannot replicate the sun. If you’re growing plants inside a tent LST allows you to spread a plant out and grow it horizontally instead of vertically so you get equal light distribution. Otherwise you’re wasting electricity.
Topping and defoliation are also needed but you’ll never max out the yield indoors without proper training
Now that my autos are maturing I can see how some early LST would’ve optimized the light exposure on some of the lower nodes.
It’s all about light exposure👍🏻
