Girls are almost 3 weeks and from what I’m learning from this forum it might be time to begin LST
And after fretting over their health since just seeds I’m a bit nervous with the idea of bending their stems.
Neither one is very tall. Should I begin gently by simply starting them slightly and adjust daily or more frequently? Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Personally I would wait another week so that your not putting those low leaves in the dirt while your bending.
@SKORPION That makes sense. Once again me getting a little impatient. Thanks for your insight!
I would just worry about the nutrient enriched medium burning your leaves.
Will you elaborate on that point please?
Oh, wait. You mean if the leaves are in close contact with the soil by being bent?
Yes and any nutrients that touch leaves will cause burn spots. And the soil is so enriched just touching the moist soil can cause it. And your growth is so low it is guaranteed to touch.see the yellow leaf dead at the bottom nute burn
Yea got it. That is such useful info for me. I hadn’t considered that so thanks a lot! Details…
Glad I could help, if you need anything just tag me I can either answer it or I can use my list of fellow growers and find someone who can. @Willum
Thank you. For sure I will!
One last thing could you tell these girls to Amber, I keep telling them but they are girls and they never listen to me.
I’d be happy to! request is in the air. Beautiful
Aspiration goal - thanks for the tease
I’m assuming these are not autoflowering plants and that you’re still vegging them. It definitely depends on the finished shape you’re looking for. If it were me I’d be happy with those bottoms two sets of axial limbs as a foundation. Call those bottom two nodes 1&2; I’d cut the top off just below node 3. From there I’d start training the 4 axial limbs outward on a horizontal plane.
You’ll be surprised how much abuse the stems can take. If you pinch and roll between your thumb and index finger like you’re trying to pill up an adhesive, it’ll break the structure and allow you to bend the limb. Sometimes it’s necessary or easier to do that multiple times.
Whether or not you decide to pinch the limbs, you’ll need to tie them down in their new position. Keep in mind that if you untie them later, they tend to spring upwards a bit.
If you don’t want to cut, but do want the lower growth to catch up a bit, you can manipulate the top to bend it over and below the lower limbs. The highest point on the plant will experience the most growth.
Cool. I’ll draft behind you for lessons along the way.
One more thing about nute burn.
A day after applying my weekly neem and dw soap mixture I noticed tiny white specs on some of the leaves.
With close observation I was relieved that they were not alive. I think what they are is crystallized soap? They’re easily brushed off and I don’t detect anything on the bottom side.
Am I correct about identification? And if so I’m guessing it can lead to burn if not removed? And also, how to ensure mixture get diluted enough to not leave the residue/powder?
Thanks for your time!
My 2 are in fact autos. I don’t know if I stunted them early on, but neither one has gained much height. The one tagged Noodle has a lot of under growth which is why I was thinking it might be time to allow more light to the growth below. And the other girl that started out slow is gaining momentum which I want to enhance and not mess up.
I’ve read some theories - especially for inexperienced growers such as myself that topping autos can be risky?
How are you watering?
Well, watering has been a hit & miss process.
Initially I’m sure I was overwatering as I watered conservative amounts, however too frequently. So I left them alone for five days until I was confident that the soil was dry. I am learning to judge by weight of the pots.
Following the dry spell I watered each girl with about 5oz around them about 3” or so from their stems. I then watered again in the same fashion about 4 days later. I’m using tap water that has been resting for a couple of days to help ease chlorine with ph @6.5
The girls are going into lights off in a couple of hrs. When lights have been back on for a few hrs I will check soil again as it looks as though it’sdry.
Ok now we are getting somewhere, I figured I was getting there when you went to reply and I waited and waited but I could see you responding. We gotta get your watering consistent and scheduled. I water half a gallon twice a week Friday “tomorrow” and again on Tuesday. Make sure you get some discharge or runoff. That runoff will take the unwanted salts or waste out with it.
I had presented the question of watering to runoff a day ago or so because I have read different philosophies. So runoff is not only about reading ppm, etc. flushing out salts, etc like you said is a necessary benefit ?
I’m glad to have this discussion because I’ve been very uncertain about this vital element!
Thanks for your input!
Now in case you are not aware, or if it matters I am growing with a pot4pot kit. At this time I am not adding anything to water.
