Too early for nutes. Wait til fat baby “leaves” shrivel up and fall off. Only PH’ed water til then.
@NavyVet420 I didn’t give the weed babies any nutes. Just the basil I’m growing in the tent with them. ![]()
Babies are just getting pH’d water now, and for a while.
That’s what I get for speed reading ![]()
@Lou4494, Dude the seedlings are looking really nice, congrats!
Now did I read that right, your tent is 4x2x5’H? and you have 2 600w (1,200w) Lights?
Thats a lot of light for such a tent (I think?), probably explains why you’re not getting much of a stretch.
I’m still learning about this myself so it will be interesting if someone else chimes in on this.
My tent is 5’x5’x6’-7"H, w a 600w HID (not an LED but still 600w) just for comparison.
Though in retrospect I will probably need to up the ante on the lightage.
I would pop at least one Chocoloupe in there if you get them in the very near future. You can always Veg the other prospects a bit longer and prune/train in them meanwhile. Wouldn’t hurt them and would give Choco a chance to let it catch up.
The time that goes into this is the same whether you use bag seed or quality seed (with no surprises of males, most likely). Hence the time (4 months) & money investment is worth going for quality, you’ll learn just as much spending your energy on bag or boutique, but your end product could in all likelyhood very well be potentially superior, plus what you really wanted to grow to begin with.
To me time is at a premium.
Just my 2c.
Regardless you’re doing a fine job! ![]()
Enjoy!
@Mote
Thanks for following along! I should’ve clarified – I have 1 light currently hanging, but I have another on the way. I dont want to have too little light during flowering, and I know my system isnt a true 600w output, so I was afraid I guess. I’d rather have a light and not need it, than need it and not have it. Since I realized very recently that even though I knew better than to get a blurple light, my lights are apparently still not the best ![]()
I guess maybe you convinced me to drop a Choco. I really dont have much room, though! It’ll be tight if I stick with 3 plants in 3 gallon pots, and then a Choco in a 5 gal fabric pot
I guess I could cull all but 2 of the bag seed plants. If I drop one, it’ll be tomorrow. ![]()
Day 8 Update:
Starting to worry a little bit… They’re all starting to look a little puckered/twisty. I thought maybe it was the bag seed quality? But now Im scared it’s my fault. Lol.
I was also scared of overwatering. Am I watering too little?
They’re in bigger solo cups, with FF Light Warrior soil, and have only been getting pHd water misted on the soil to keep it damp.
Humidity has been a struggle even with a humidifier, but it’s averaging 45-55%. Temp avg is 73°F.
Plants are 25" beneath a 600w YGROW led.
I have a small intake and exhaust fan setup, and a desk fan.
Any ideas?? Thanks ![]()
I haven’t run into this yet. But @raustin is a wizard and she should be by shortly and she’ll tell you what’s going on with them.
You are right, its better to have more light than you need as long as you can control it. As for it getting overcrowded, its ok for now, plus the bag seeds are a bit of a wild card, they might be males, you wont know till you’ve invested the time to bring them to the point where they can be sexed. They are all bag/mystery seeds now right? If that’s the case you have no guarantees that there will be any females in that lot.
Chocolope is what you wanted that should be your main focus plant, the others are secondary unless you have feminized seeds.
I Borrowed this from OSG’s Super Skunk thread (check it out when you have some time) , I’m sure he wont mind, for future reference.
Puckered & Twisted: I dont know anything about LEDs but they’re certainly much different than HIDs.
How close do you have the light to them? Maybe back it off a bit, say 5"-7" or even 10 inches, keep an eye on them a few days and adjust lighting. If they stretch at this stage its ok, you can bury them deeper into the pot when you transplant. Its better to have them stretch than to burn them.
Are the Clear Cups/Jars you have them in Exposed to Light, which would in turn expose the Roots.
I dont think that is a good thing at all and could be causing some issues. Duct tape them or put them in another non-transparent container, do not take the seedlings out of the container.
Check out Green Jewl’s, Better than the last Blueberry auto thread, she had some nifty ideas for this stage that I’ll be using in my next grow. You may want to employ it for the Choco seed. Very simple but very ingenious at the same time.
Theyre 25" from the light, now. I think 24" is factory recommended.
The root-light theory makes sense! Hmm… had not even considered that. Someone here recommended clear cups so I COULD see root progress…hmm. Maybe I’ll cover them, good idea.
I’ll do that while Im waiting to hear from others ![]()
I guess I’ll drop a Choco. I’m just afraid this will happen to it, too! Haha
If anything Choco will be off to a better start, see, you’re already learning LOL.
What Green Jewels did was take a clear cup and made 4 cuts along the sides down to the bottom of cup so that she could see root development, like you said. but then she put those cups into those Red Solo cups we’ve all seen, that blocks out light to the roots. The use of transparent cups is a good one but the roots should not be exposed to light. Easy fix.
Back up the lights 5 inches and take care of those exposed roots and see what happens.
@raustin should have more insight into this, she’s a good egg ![]()
From my experience the first few leave are trying to balance staying alive and feeding the growth of the plant. They will twist turn colors and just not look right all the time. In home brewing we have a saying, “Don’t worry. Have a Homebrew!”
On my next grow, I have one strain in particular that I want to grow, I will be germinating that seed first, after it cracks I’ll germinate my three other strains. Point is, if I germinated all of them at the same time but my main strain failed, I would have to scramble to get another one going. Hence I’m popping her in her bath first, the Others can catch up to Her. May only grow three strains, it would be a lot easier to mover em around in my tent.
BTW: Realistically and or Ideally, your tent can accommodate 2 plants comfortably with plenty of room for each to grow, you could do three but thats pushing it, unless you can bonsai them LOL. Not saying you cant do 3 but it will be tight once they take off.
Alright, alright…Chocolope 1.0 is a go! It’s a weird feeling. I want like hell to grow a Choco, but I’m also scared/sad to use a seed.
Oh it will be okay
Once you see her growing it’ll be all worth it.
Those first few leaves can be a little funky sometimes, but I think you should raise your light up to 30 inches, seedlings don’t need that much light.
Also, as suggested, cover those clear cups with some duct tape so the roots are not exposed to light.
Your plants look really good so far.
Alright! Thanks, friends!
I dropped a Choco seed!
And then I set the clear cups into red cups but still had to tape the top couple inches of clear cup because it didnt fit all the way into the red cup. Lol.
AND raised the light to about 30" – it’s as high as it can go without some serious rigging.
If this was the issue, will those leaves ever recover, or just the new growth wont be damaged??
Best of luck with your ladies!
WooHoo! for you. There are a lot of enablers here LOL. Go Chocolope!
As you will see, in the grand scheme of things & this venture in particular the price of the seed in negligible.
In the end you will be growing your chosen strain and thats really exciting. If out of your other seedlings a girl should appear then you’re set.
Have fun and read a lot. especially LST, I think those sativa dominants get kinda tall.
Just looked at the description of Choco…Plant…Tall LOL. Definitely read up on lst and scrog, you might need to do one of both, no biggie.
Set to watch. ![]()
![]()
I was definitely planning on some lst. Haha. That was another reason I wanted other plants to practice on, too. Haha.
Im soooo excited. I really do have a feeling that the roots getting light was the issue. Especially because the first 2 that showed symptoms were the biggest, so their roots got to the sides first. Longer exposure. Makes sense.
SO Im hopeful that from here forward they’ll be healthy. And that I catch anything that may be wrong. Haha
From what a lot of other say as long as the new growth looks good then it’s fine. That’s basically one of your first set so don’t stress too much over them. Eventually they’re going to die off anyhow.
