Lighting first grow

I am a first timer and was planning to p/u the vivosun 4x2 kit, but it comes w/the 100w led. I’m planning to grow auto’s, hopefully 3. Seems I should upgrade to the 200w light. Am I wrong or does it make any difference if I am growing auto’s?

The 200 watt VS2000 is adequate to flower 1 plant. Any less will result in spindly plants with lower quality buds.

Welcome to the community if I was going to buy a kit it would be from A/C infinity the light will still be a little under sized but all the components will be quality

If going with a tent, id piece it individually.

welcome to the community @Norsk :v:t2:
Definitely piece it out just look at everything you get in a tent kit and look it up through different companies vivo’s son tents will work but their vent fans are not so great I would go AC Infinity for the fans and there are many choices for lighting I prefer hlg but anything with a 301 b or h diode will be a good light there are some companies with quality lights and a little cheaper diode look around through some threads you will see a lot of different lighting I believe there’s a thread comparing lighting from @Low

I was strongly leaning towards the AC infinity 2x2 (4ft high, not the 6 ft high) kit. Was worried that 4’ might be a bit short since I prefer sativa’s. And since I’m doing auto’s, I don’t want to top, rather just stick to LST/SCROG.

The light that comes with the kit is the 100w S22
I was considering upgrading to the 130w T22.

Or, since it’s only 48” height, would it make sense to upgrade even more?

I’m guessing 2 plants would be ideal in this tent, but, again, don’t want to engage in any HST.

Thanks so much, btw!

I’m quite relieved to find a community as opposed to online “reviews”

One plant per 2x2 space is recommended. And 4’ high minus the light fixture leaves with about 3.5 feet. Minus the light distance from top of plant to said light, let’s say 12”. Wet are now at 2.5 feet of space. Minus roughly 12” with the pot/riser you will be able to grow 1 plant to a max of 1.5’ tall from the medium. Which sounds like training to widen the canopy. Which would leave 0 room for another plant. Sounds like a lot of work. Definitely not a sativa friendly environment. I’ve had blue dream hit over 7’ tall and had to be super cropped a lot. The tallest tent you can get the better. The size of the tent itself should be based on your expectations and what you want out of it.

That being said it would be a decent candidate to scrog 1 plant.

Thanks. I’m limited to 5’3” (ceiling in the area I’m using is only 5’6”) height. Which is what made me consider the Vivosun 2.7x2.7 tent which is 5’3”. Maybe the ac infinity set up - 130w light, ventilation set up, etc with the vivosun tent?

That size will work. I’d recommend these… the spider farmer sf2000 that’s more for 2x2 however it would work for the 27x27 pretty well.

These bar style lights are nice, will be even coverage wall to wall in that space. And you can get closer to your plants if you want to, which will save you some height if they get tall.

The prices reflected are retail, likely lower than what I listed.

If you are trying to find space to grow in a restricted height you will need to spread out. I have a 2 X 4 X 5 tent which would fit. This would allow you to spread out and grow 2 plants.

Strongly recommend you use photoperiod over autoflower. You will be able to control flowering height to some extent with photos. A SCROG would be helpful to maximize space.

As to what to grow: Sour Diesel is a Sative-heavy hybrid that does well and can get large if not trained. Super Skunk is another. Green Crack, Girl Scout Cookies also.

This is great advice

I was planning to SCROG. If I was going with photo’s , I’d fim, but I’ve heard that isn’t wise with auto’s. More than anything I’m interested in whether I can conceivably keep 2 indoor tents staggered to get a couple auto harvests every 2.5-3 mos of around 4-6 oz while I have 3-4 photos outdoor. We just went legal here in MN, but I have a limited outdoor grow period. Space as well. I’ve grown OD, but it’s been 10 years and even then, I only did it 2x. But it was surprisingly not as hard as I was afraid of, but I didn’t have to figure out the sun, the wind, etc like I have to ID. Lol

Very true words right there. My first grow i was pushing 4 and 5 ft plants and was burning the tops. I learned to LST and now got them down to around 3 to 4

It’s been my understanding that there is no issue with LST with autos? LST is actually the thing I’m least concerned with as I actually do that very thing with a whole variety of plants with my job. Don’t auto’s generally stay shorter than photos as well?

@Norsk generally with autos ill lst up until they start flowering, after that i dont touch because of recovery times.
