Lighting and fluffy buds

hi i was curious how close does the light need to be from the plant? does it needs to start out far and move closer as it flowers? also my buds seem light and fluffy, its been hot in nh. around high 80s to high 90s. do i need to move the light closer for the next round? my lady is a blueberry autoflower. thank you for your help i learned alot from all of you

@jimlisa2 they look very stretched lights to high and they look very young to young to flip 12/12

Never mind the too young comment reread your post autoflower huh maybe not enough nutes during veg what do you think @peachfuzz

It does appear that your light is too high (:joy:). How far above the plant is it hanging? What light are you using?
The plant’s buds are just starting out. They should fill in a bit, but keep in mind that good lighting is a key element in developing big fat dense buds. Many blurple lights just don’t put out enough light to do the job properly on a decent size plant.

the light id about 2 and a half feet higher than the plant.

this is the light that i putchased from amazon. how far up do you normally put your light above your ladies?

The light is too far from the plant. I’d drop it to 18"-20" and see how the plant reacts. You might even get down to 10"-12".
That light, unfortunately, is very underpowered for flowering cannabis. The rule of thumb for lighting is 50watts/sq ft. That light draws 35 watts.

I put my lights as close as possible. Usually 12"-14", but I’m now using quantum boards and eb light strips.

The light is really the problem and the excessive heat isn’t helping either… it looks like your doing dwc hydro… how big is your res and how much air are you pumping into it and what are your water temps…?
You definitely need a better light tho…
@dbrn32 could you take a look at the top of this thread and point this grower to a better light set up… dont know there budget but I would think even cfls or t5ho lighting would trump the light setup they’ve got now…
Thks my friend

It’s probably closer to 15 real watts. That light will work for seedling and new clones but would not b sufficient for veg or flower on a larger plant. Sorry for the bad news but light is one thing u can’t really skimp on.

Gonna have to agree with the others, your light not producing the intensity required for large hard nugs. And temps are high regardless, especially if you’re running hydro and water temp is following.

I’d be happy to try and help find a more appropriate light. But we should probably figure out what’s going on with your temps first and work within that. How big is the space? What do you have for intake and exhaust, and what is the temp of the room that tent is in?

i have to admit in the summer i have not been looking at the temps in the closet. i focus on the temps in the winter

@ peachfuzz can i add clfs to what i have or do i have to throw out the current light and start over? i like to add more light if i can? thank you

@jimlisa2 heads up if you add @ to the beginning of a name it will alert them so they can respond talk to dbrn32

You should really do your best to maintain temps year round, especially your water temps.

I wouldn’t throw that light out, it has purpose. If you want large dense buds you’ll get best results starting from scratch. How big is your grow space?

Dbrn32 helped me. Similar light.

@dbrn32 the size of the grow close is roughly 2ft by2ft. its very small. it is where the electric panel is and made a closet out of it.

Cfls would definitely be a better option for vegging your plants then that led that you have… I use cfls for vegging sometimes when I run out of room in my other area , but I dont flower under them , but I have in the past when I was experimenting with different things and I can tell you for sure from the looks of your pics that my outcome was quite substantial compared to yours…
Here’s a pic of some plants in veg under a CFL light fixture that I made and rdwc systems with built in chillers that I made as well… you tell me…

Although I dont use LEDs , so I cant really give you information on them… @dbrn32 is the man that I would go to if I was taking that route tho…

@ peach fuzz thank you for your help. you are doing a whole lot better than me. so my other question is what type of light do you flower under? if the cfls is for vegging than what is for flowering?

I use 600 watt magnetic hps ballist with a 4500 Kelvin bulb in a 8" xxxl air cooled hood…
I have a whole shed just for flowering and it was built specifically for that purpose…
Veg and cloning is done in a completely different building…
This winter I’ll be adding a 400 watt mh bulb and ballist to the opposite side of my xxxl hoods , so I’ll have a 600 watt hps bulb and a 400 watt mh bulb in each hood , so I’ll have a total of 1000 watts of light in different spectrums which I believe is going to have ridiculous results… from all of my experience…
When that time comes I’ll be running a 3500 Kelvin bulb in the hps side and a 6500 Kelvin bulb in the mh side…

Much closer. The Chinese Amazon lights won’t hurt the plant until you get it too close from the heat of the light. My light is within 1 foot and no problems.

I would say at 1 foot away with your light will be fine.

As far as the timing it really don’t matter this is an autoflower… The light needs to be much closer you can almost touch the tops with led without burning them. I had one of my 600w full spectrum led fall and just sit on the buds on part of my flowering plant. It burned the couple of buds it was touching the rest was just fine. I’m just saying the closer the better as long as ALL your plant has LIGHT if it don’t , add another light.
