Hello group, going to make my order soon, but am not sure what to order. I like a sativa leaning plant to grow outside with moderate conditions. I grew Jack Herer last year with less than good results that produced airy buds on all 3 plants. We had quite a bit of rain late, but not real bad, temps were 60-75, and it was at 99 days that I cut the auto down, due to start of bud rot. The trichomes were still clear and the buds never closed up. I feed them right up to about 2 weeks before the chop. The plant grew awesomely until it came time for the buds to ripen, which they did not. Should I try the Jack Herer again or is this common with this strain. Im not saying it wasnt my fault that this happened, but all was well until the very last stage, which I used big bloom to feed. Any Jack growers out there with comments?
The final couple of weeks or so are when the buds really start putting on weight and getting dense. Growing outdoors (which I have never done) presents very different challenges than for indoor growing. Indoors we must create the proper environment. Outdoors you have nearly no control over environment. Issues late in flower are not uncommon, as I understand it, when growing outdoors.
It sounds to me as though you are missing out on the crucial period…the final two to three weeks when the buds fatten up and get dense. That said, Sativa leaning hybrids typically are less dense than Indica buds but mine have been close.
I hope that you find something useful in my ramblings.
Blue Dream should do very well outside. I have grown them over 7 feet tall indoors.
I have never tried Jack Herer yet.
Well, I have read that sativas buds arent as compact and I would have more control inside, but Im determined to get a good grow outside. I like the effects of Jack Herer, but not sure if thats the best plant to grow outside. I will check on Blue Dream. thanks for the input.
I had sucess in 5 gllon pots with Northern Lights auto and Amnesia Haze outdoors.
Here is AH mid flower.
Welcome ! The area I’m located I try to get my plants out mid may and they usually don’t start flowering till mid August so I’m pushing frost in mid October to product soild buds. As @merlin44 mentioned last couple weeks the buds fatten up (weight). Jack herer is a good choice. Good luck
I forgot to say I have the same conditions as kellydans so I have gone to an autoflower. I will try the Jack Herer again hoping I will have better results this year. The auto last year was at 99 days when I chopped her and should have gone longer which surprised me for an auto so there must have been more going on. I popped it june 8 and transplanted outside july 1. Ill be backing that up this year as last year was a learning experiance for autoflowers.
Ok, ive got it down to Jack Herer or Blue dream, leaning toward Blue Dream after last years JH results. Any thoughts would be appreciated from the group who have grown either. Trying to get as much info as I can, as Im still in the learning curve.
