Let's talk DIY lights

What percent do you run and what is most effective distance for best par? I think I’d rather preorder photoboost strips than quantum boards because I can spread it the way I like.

I just feel I can make it longer with photoboost. I plan on using 54" heatsinks so I can reduce heat better but leave a 4" gap in between strips. You have always been great help. If you need something shoot me a message would love to show appreciation.

Haven’t got mine built yet. I was finishing up my current grow, so I haven’t had time to build. Going to get it done next weekend. Have some Green Crack seeds ordered. Lights will be ready when I start my next grow.

That’s why I am building 2 Photo Boost. Each one will cover 2×4 . Going to use them to cover 4x4 and still be able to adjust each one to different heights if I need to

Definitely more flexibility in the strips. But it seems like they cost a little bit more too. So a little give and take there. They pretty much use the same white leds and same class of red leds though.

It evens out being the heatsinks for the strips are cheaper

Wait until they put a pair of boards up with a pair of heatsinks, it will be cheaper. The heatsink price is discounted when purchased with boards.

I already ordered everything to do the strips. I will definitely get the boards if they double up with heatsinks for veg room. Any ideas on a way to make a reflector hood?

Depends on what you are thinking you’ll need the hood for? The leds don’t emit light beyond about 120-150 degrees. So as long as you have reflective surface in your space, you shouldn’t really need a hood. If you’re thinking something else, I would have to put some thought into it.

Didn’t think about that I have reflective material around but just knew the design was for a 4x8 space trying to stretch a bit.

I would build and run a grow. If you feel like it needs to be tweaked a little, you can do it after seeing how things go.

I’m anxious to see how these compare to my 75 watt cobs. Hope it lives up to the hype. *fingers crossed *

Once again, I’m loving the plc strips.

I’ve got 1212 cobs, bridgelux strips and hlg v2 288’s all in the same tent as the plc build. The plc seems to be edging the others out on bud density and trichome production. That’s without even comparing efficacy.

My current build has 10 strips in a 30”x46” frame. It’s flowering 3’x4’. The strips are about 5” apart and I can drop them within 5-8” of the plants colas.
The new build will be 2 lights. Each 30”x23”, 5 strips per light. That way I can space them a little better and grow 1 plant under each light.

I will be running 2 8 strip setups with hlg-320h-c1400b drivers. (Per PLC)Just got hit with $40 in tarrifs just for the drivers . I really should have asked what driver I would need to run 10 strips on each or would it be more cost effective to run 4 drivers 5 strips on each.

I feel like an idiot. Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m thinking 2 HLG-240H-C1400B. Would be a much better option than 1 hlg-320h-c1400b. I’m thinking to preorder more strips and do 12 strips on each fixture to better cover my area.

I’m using one hlg 185h-c1400 for 5 strips. Ends up pulling a hair over 200 for each driver.

I’m thinking 6 per 240h at 1400 which would be 24 total and change my footprint to 6x5. Just waiting on the almighty light God to confirm my suspicions @dbrn32 :joy:

That’s what plc recommends for 6 strips.

Unless you want to push 5 a bit harder with the HLG240h-c1750

Still. Best to wait for the man to chime in.

I keep the room at 76 during flower easily so cranking them should be fine.

Depends on exact amount of strips. I usually don’t recommend wiring in parallel, but that would open up a lot of options for you.

It looks like an hlg-480h-c1750 would do 10 strips in series. But I don’t know if you want to push the strips that hard. The flip side, hlg-185h-c700a would also run 10 strips. But it would be pretty expensive to build out 30 square feet going that route.
