Leaf Miners Flowering Stage

Aloha ILGM Ohana,

Anyone know how they would control leaf miners in an outdoor grow during the flowering to harvest stage? Most effective companion plants? I’m considering spraying down the leaves with chili pepper water insecticide that I made instead of soap water or neem oil despite not wanting to spray anything at all during this stage but these miners are relentless! Mahalo for all the tips fam!

Neem oil should be avoided during flowering. Capt. Jacks Deadbug is effective and safe to use.

Mahalo MidwestGuy, I will try that as well. Aloha

Mix Deadbug at 1.5 times recommended rate and apply to top and bottom of plant leaves , literally soak them top to bottom. Spray every 3 days for 2 wks and you won’t have any pests left, the two weeks breaks their life cycle. Good luck

If you spray anything, consider a bud wash when harvesting. This will take care of any trash on the buds before hanging

Sorry I left that out, always do a bud wash if plants have been treated with anything!

Never heard of a bud wash, but I will look into it! It hurts to spray flowers, esp. near harvest! But my flowering plant is attracting my plants in veg (same outdoor space) w/ even more Leaf Miners. Hopefully, I can also get some companion plants going to repel and even attract some beneficial parasitic wasps that will eat the miners. ALOHA Doc

The Deadbug can be used right up til harvest, but I recommend doing a bud wash to make sure everything is off my buds before consuming.

Bud wash intructions…

1 - 5 gal bucket filled with lukewarm water. Add 2 cups of baking soda and 2 cups lemon juice

1 - 5 gal bucket lukewarm water 2 cups hydrogen peroxide.

1 - 5gal bucket cold water

Dip buds in each bucket, agitating carefully for a min or two.

Repeat a second time if desired.

After rinsing, hang and allow to drip dry for 6 to 12 hours.

After drip drying start your drying procedure.

I bud wash religiously now. I grow indoors and the stuff that comes off is crazy. I can only imagine what would come off for an outdoor grow.

This will remove any dirt, dust, fibers, bugs, bug poop, bug caracasses, organic pesticides ect.

Chit-mon,
Any increased mold issue challenges after all that water dunking?

Any significant loss of resin glands or terpenes noticed?

Is the smoke noticeably cleaner from organic sprays after the bud wash?

Mahalo nui loa!

No mold as long as your humidity and temps are good. No flavor or terpene loss. Trichomes repel water.

Thanks again for the new insight. This one is a nugget for sure. Shaka brah

For example… i washed my last harvest this past tuesday. I racked it Wednesday. Had a friend come by who had never seen my rooms and i let him smell some of the strains i had racked. He said his favorite one smelled like fruity pebbles and his fingers stuck like glue… … winning !

I will definitely try this wash out on a few finished plants. Fruity Pebbles sounds onolicious! Leaf Miners suck!
