You would need to know when the clone was taken but we can probably tell by looking at her if she is monster cropped. Basically a photo clone is basically in veg. An auto would be exactly the same age as mom. @AnneBonny
@bob31 do you mean clone lol
Ocean Forest - you should be able to find it locally at garden centers, amazon charges double for it. I get the big bags at my local always for $18
I plant my clones in Ocean Forest but feed Mammoth P and Rhinoskin right away, adding other age appropriate nutes in after a couple of weeks
I Hey @Annebonny I don’t think I stated that as well as I could. I take my clones from vegging mothers - I put then right into Clonex and then a jiffy cube with seed starting soil and under T5 in a germination tray. After about 7-10 days I move them to a clear solo cup (so i can see the roots) with Ocean Forest and place them under indirect LED. Usually about 7-10 days later the roots are growing to the bottom and I move them to 5 gal cloth pots and Ocean Forest. After about 7-14 days when they have established and start putting on more foliage I feed for vegetative growth. About 7 days before I switch to flower I begin adding bloom nutes to the veg nutes. Then when i switch I increase the bloom nutes and start to phase out the veg Nutes and also add cal mag during the transition. Once I see pistils I start the flower food and fade the bloom food. About week 4 of flowering I start worth the ripener/sweetener. At six weeks I fade the flower food but keep the seeetener going until the last week before harvest. I’m supplementing with Advanced Nutrients Rhinoskin for the first time and my plants look amazing, this has been given since sprouting and/or cloning. And finally I’m adding Mammoth P all the way thru as well, but just started at the preflower this time. I’m using Roots Organics Bhudda Grow, Roots Source Aminos for vegetative, GH FloraMicro for preflower/bloom, Roots Surge for flowering and SourD for sweetening and ripening.
I really like the Advanced Nutrients Line because there is very little pH adjustment with my water. The Roots line is pretty awesome, very bioavailable (low ppm at full strength) with very little ppm in run off which suggests to me that it’s being taken up. The downside is that their stuff is wicked acidic and pH adjustment takes a bit more finesse.
This is only my third Grow this year, having not grown in 25 years - I’m still learning but can see progress with every Grow .
Hope this helps!!!
Great info @Sl1 Thank you. My co-worker told me today she misunderstood what her husband told her and I won’t have the clone for another 3 weeks or so as it’s not ready. This is fine as it gives me time to get some of the additional items I will need. Plus waiting another 3 weeks means it’s unlikely I will be able to harvest before frost which will force the issue of lights and a tent.
How’s the hand feeling? Did you get a date for surgery?
@AnneBonny
Dill pickles
6 lbs. pickling cucumbers (approximately 3-4 cucumbers per jar)
3 cups white vinegar
3 cups water
4 tbsp. pickling salt
7 garlic cloves, peeled
7 tsp. dill seeds
3 1/2 tsp. whole black peppercorns
4 large, fresh grape leaves
-
Prepare jars – wash or sterilize them in the dishwasher – keeping them hot.
-
Start water bath now – you want it close to the boiling point by the time you are ready to add your jars.
-
Wash cucumbers – making sure to scrub the skin thoroughly.
-
Cut off each end of the cucumber, and slice, dice or spear as desired.
-
In a medium sauce pan, over medium high heat, bring vinegar, water and salt to a boil.
-
In each jar, add 1 garlic clove, 1 teaspoon of dill seed, and 1/2 teaspoon of peppercorns to the bottom.
-
Pack cucumbers tightly into each jar.
-
Pour hot brine over cucumbers, leaving 1/4 inch head space.
-
Run a plastic utensil on the inside of the jar to release any air bubbles.
-
Add 1/2 of a grape leaf on top of the cucumbers.
-
Wipe top of jar with a clean damp cloth, add hot lid and band.
-
Place in hot water bath and process for 10 minutes at a roiling boil. (adjust time based on altitude as required)
-
Remove jars and place on a thick towel. Let cool at room temperature for 24 hours.
-
After 24 hours, check to make sure the jars are sealed by pressing down on the center of the lid. If it does not ‘pop’ then it is sealed.
-
Age for at least two weeks before eating
If you like them hot and spicy add one whole Cayanne pepper to each jar.
The grape leaf
is the secret to crisp pickles!!
Awesome! Thanks @hillbilly103 I can’t wait to try these.
@AnneBonny I’ve got 3 year old pickles that are just as good as this years.
I use the same recipe for cauliflower and banana peppers.
Hope you enjoy
Thank you @hillbilly103!!
@hillbilly103 approximately how many jars do you need for 6 lbs of cucumbers? Thanks for posting this recipe! I’m going to steal it too!
@bob31 what type of cucumber ? How big are they?
I grow straight eights for canning. And pick at about 8" long. Approximately 6lb for 7 pints or 3-4 per pint.
I don’t have any cucs yet. Just looking for an estimate. Thanks @hillbilly103
@bob31 growing or buying?
This year I’m going to have to buy. Last year the weather wiped them out with the heat and this spring was so wet anything that was in the ground pretty much drowned. I decided to make a compost pile this year and so far as wet as it has been, I’m glad i decided to do so. I will be buying for this project @hillbilly103 We have a farmers market in town and they usually have some good ones!
Try to find straight eight brand cucumbers
Best for Pickling
I don’t grow pickles on the ground, plant them in the ground beside a wire fence, the vines grow up the fence and keeps the cucumbers off the ground and super easy to pick @bob31
Oh, I will have to do them with my banana peppers too @hillbilly103 . My husband will love that.
They are the best @hillbilly103. All my cukes washed away in all the rain we had so I will be buying them this year
Do you think those sweeteners do much to the overall end product? Im like 1.5 grows in n getting a sweetener is like the only nute/supplement I havent started using yet. Online when I researched I couldn’t really find a difinetive answer if they really do much. I grow hydro/dwc too and couldn’t really find if those sugar products worked with it either.
I couldn’t say for sure, I’m still a NOOB but got them for free at a convention so am using
Well free ninety-nine is a pretty great price. I’d be using em too for free lol. Once I get my set up a lil more dialed in I’ll probably end up getting some kind of sweetener n giving it a try. until then when I’m growing seems to be pretty nice so I’ll run with it for a bit longer
