Harvested the last of my autos the other day. Magnificent auto Blue Dream. Huge, dense buds, heavy, sticky with trichromes.
Now the surprise. We wet pick, run the buds through the bowl trimmer, then dry.
While cutting and giving the buds a pre trim, we noticed little tiny seed pods here and there. Mostly located in the thickest buds. She hermed!
This definitely happened late stage. I pull my plants out to examine, fondle and trim weekly, and also to look for things like this.
So this snuck up on me.
I wonder if I stressed her too much? Lot of LST, 1000w HPS, weekly feeding of Beastie Bloomz and Cha Ching while in flower, on a 20/4 cycle.
She’s a keeper. I put several fresh buds under the microscope and they’re loaded with milky and amber trichomes. This is her pre chop.
Thoughts?
Thank you. I never expected a hermie, even the small amount we had when we harvested her. Really caught me off guard.
But I’m keeping her. The fact that she hermed, even so late in flower didn’t seem to have any impact of her buds. Sticky and dense.
Again, I wonder if I caused it? 1000w HPS, plus when I began adding Beastie Bloomz and Cha Ching the buds exploded, almost overnight. Maybe that explosive growth spurt triggered it.
Its extremely hard to narrow down or determine what did it as there are a plethora of factors besides what you listed there are other factors as well temps,rh,genetics so realistically its impossible to say definitely a beautiful plant tho
When we deny this plant any males during its life the genetic trait to grow a male blossom and try to pollenate itself it always there. Every female plant carries that gene. The longer we let it go without being pollinated the more likely it is to throw a boy flower out in a last ditch effort to make seeds. If you grow long enough you will get an occasional seed. Doesn’t mean you did anything wrong or even that the plant was stressed. Its just the nature of the plant. Now if truly stressed to the point the plant senses conditions that make it think it is going to die prematurely, then it will hermie and make pollen sacks before its mature. Depending on the genetics the plant may do this with just a little stress and some will take more intense stress to herm. Its just something you will have happen sometimes. If you have been fortunate enough to avoid it so far then be glad. But when it does happen don’t be quick to think you did something wrong. Its just the nature of the plant to survive in harsh conditions.
