I will be using nutrition provided by Dr Earth Organic and will be using the high feed rate schedule. https://drearth.com/wp-content/uploads/Feeding-Schedule.pdf
I will be using this schedule as is with no changes unless the wheels come off.
Tent is a 4x4 with 6 inch exhaust ducted out of the lung room and 700 watts of lights from a 400 watt and 2 150 watt panels. Environmental controls by ACi with both cloud forge and thermoforge under app control.
2nd tent is a 31x31 with a 4 inch exhaust and a 260 watt bar light. It has a humidifier for environmental control on app and will be used as a science experiment. I have been following a fella on another pot forum and he says he has had good responses by following a 18-12 light schedule for photo periods. Apparently the growth hormones that are regulated by light are only looking for the 12 hour darkness period to flower and do not really have access to time keeping devices. Over a week this results in an additional 20% light energy input for the plant. I think he is onto something but I am only going to try this on a single plant. I am going to sprout 6 seeds and pot 6 seeds. I will hope to cull 1 or 2 plants during the grow and I would love to get 3 or 4 in the 4x4 and just one in the 31x31 for this test.
If something happens and I am left with only 3 plants I will use the 4x4 to run some backup autos in the small tent. I have a few amnesia Haze freebies.
I spent my last auto grow learning about timing the turn up on long bud runs. I have read a bunch of stuff and watched a bunch of videos on mainlining to break the main stem dominance. I worked hard on the turn up timing and keeping the long runs clear of fan leafs and I now understand much more about how to make the plant do what you want and go where I want them to go.
One of the things that have made growing pot more difficult is gnants. Because of this I am treating every bag of dirt like it has gnants. I am using a 60-40 mix of ocean forest and happy frog with added perlite in 5 gallon fabric pots. The tent was set up for high heat and low humidity and has been running for 10 days. It has a 3 day 1 liter turn around and nemetodes wre installed during the first watering.
It’s like getting an aquarium up and running stable with no bacteria before dropping fish in it.
I sprout on paper towels on a dish in a sealed bag. I am 24 for 24 on sprouts of ILGM seeds and hope this run is the same.
5 Blackberry kush and one Gelato x Girl Scout Cookies photo seed are in the drawer.
Water source RO from a filter kit.
Will add Cal-mag on presentation of an issue or at 75% of expected highest light settings which will be around 65K lux max so around 45k lux cal-mag at 3ml per gallon rate
Ipm 3 barrier system with hunny pots to attract and kill and a self closing door on the room.
Interior protection by sticky traps. I have neem, dead bug and nuclear options available.
Ppppbbbbb winter grow screw you bugs.
Have you tried mosquito bits to combat the gnats? I mix some into my soil mix when I fill the pots. I use coco loco add perlite and mosquito bits and mix it all together. Keeps them at bay throughout the grow.
Looks like you have quite a plan there. Following along!
From posts online I have seen a trend where MBites die off during a dryback. It looks to me that MBits are more suited to always wet coco rather than dry cycle peat based.
Nemetodes need a damp environment and I do provide that and the damp environment is what hurts the plants when treating for gnants. 10 days damp on top stunned my last sprouts but did eliminate the issue.
Great post and excited to follow along. Couple of things that I wanted to throw out there. I’ve been using Dr. Earth stuff in my regular garden area outside and have had great results with veggies, fruits and flowers. I had never seen that link you provided so I bookmarked it, good info in there. I had a question about the possible light schedule you posted. I mainly grow outside only, but did just get a small hydroponic/aerogarden style unit for tge holidays as a gift. Started some tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and a couple of LSD Autoflower seeds to try it out for outdoor transplanting purposes a few weeks from now. When you said a 18-12 light schedule, did you mean 18-6 for the vegetative stage and then go to a rotating 18-12 for flowering? It makes sense if the flowering mechanism in the plant is looking for 12 hours of darkness to trigger that part of the cycle, but I’ve never heard of it someone doing it before. In a tent, you can control it so I guess it wouldn’t really matter. If we lived on another planet where the sun cycle was 30 hours instead of 24, the plants would adapt anyway. Very interesting concept and I am interested in seeing how that works out. Learn new things by trying new things. Also, I already have some of the Blimburn Blackberry Moonrocks seeds that were recommended on here by others that I’m going to be planting outside in March. So definitely want to see if yours turns out similar to the other growers on here. Anyway, thanks for the post and looking forward to your updates. Have a great day.
P.S. they, the mods, may bang on you for posting a link to another seed site. It’s allowed to talk about it but not directly linked to it. I did it myself, twice in one day, and they asked me not to. Just FYI. Good luck.
I get yelled at a lot for doing things that others do all day. No big deal the rules and I will not do so anymore.
It was fascinating read but as sometimes happens I did not bookmark it. It seems the hormone for growing and the hormone for not work differently.
What the chemical data showed was that night time hormone peaked quickly and trended down with it being at a non effective rate anywhere from 10-14 hours.
The daytime peaked within 20 minutes on tested strains and remained until turned off. Again these are the hormones associated with growing and producing. Flowering hormones are different and are created SOLELY BY THE DARK cycle.
He made the connection for changing the cycle length based on this study.
Mine will be a side by side 18-6 then 12-12 until flower initiated and then one plant on 18-12 cycle.
Now I feel all sciencey…
Thanks @Pothead64 for the reply. I’m not saying that they will say anything as I too have seen it slip by with others posts. But if the mods do catch it, they may just ask (politely I might add) to not do it. It’s no big deal, just the mods doing their job as well.
We will have to change your name to Pothead Bill Nye 64 now. I love all the sciencey stuff and a great opportunity to do something new to see if it works. I’m getting ready to try an outdoor “Hempy” bucket hydro on this next outdoor grow. I read about it having good results on some forums but not a lot of input from here as to effectiveness. But that’s why I’m going to try it, see what happens. Wouldn’t be the first thing that I’ve messed up, won’t be the last either. But at least I can speak from a place of knowledge and experience after having tried it. I really dislike it when people just dismiss things out of hand when they have never tried it themselves or done any in-depth research on it. I had a ton of people tell me that I absolutely could not do an outdoor hydroponic grow. But I absolutely was able to. It was challenging, but fascinating too. Learned a lot for sure. Looking forward to your results.
Godfather OG in a 27 gallon Costco tote, From the last community grow. Outside:
I follow a guy on another blog who does pondponics.
A recirculating hydro in an outdoor koi pond.
First attempt he had bad weather in flower and did not finish.
Top 3 inches of soil removed and mixed with Dr Earth Home Grown at Cannabis feed chart rate. All pots watered with 1 liter RO. Pots distributed in tent and light panel at highest point. Power level 51% giving 7900 lux in center of pots.
Cloudforge at 65% to turn the pots over in 2 days. Tent with no support from themoforge at 74 and this will be fine as the box gives me 10 degrees.
The Gelato x / GSC turned out had 2 in the tube so dropped 2 of those and 4 Blackberry Moonrocks. Plan is to keep max 5 plants in 2 tents. All plants get to late veg before decisions are made.
Only doing one plant at 18-12 flower as a test.
Backup go to hell plan is 2 Amnesia Haze autos in small tent and whatever is left in bigger tent.
